A local diving and submersible equipment supplier in Lancashire has launched a new range of chambers for medical use. Smallest chamber sits up to four people comfortably and can be incorporated into a room design within a clinical setting. Anyone thinking about setting up a specialist wound care or MSK centre might want to consider this option. I've attached their brochure and contact details in good faith.

    what do they cost ?

  3. Price in the brochure - aprox £100K depending on specifications.

Each Rx takes 1 hour - cost to patient/NHS from £50 depending on occupancy. The chamber should generate £250 + per/hour. If you take the O2 unit option, running costs are minimal...

I spent about 1.5 hours "down deep" in a recompression chamber many years ago (when I was a diving instructor. All I can say is that it is an interesting place to have been - the equivalent to 180ft (45 metres, for round numbers), bombed out of you brain on Nitrogen. then to spend the next 6 hours coming back to life. All a part of life's rich pattern. And in the modern idiom, very character building (are we allowed to say that?). Rob

we have a diaetic ulcer clinic here which has hyperbaric "chamber" for just the foot, not the whole body, such that there are no other issues to consider, just the foot with the ulcer fits into it.

  6. The therapeutic pressure is measured between 7m and 14.5m, Rob - about 2 bar. Some Oz operating theatres are effectively hyperbaric rooms and claim to reduce post-op healing times considerably. You never know - it might even cure corns....

  10. It would be interesting to see how they achieve pressurisation when the foot is still attached to the leg...
