How did US podiatrists NOT see this coming? There has been no change in education other than on paper. The hideously failed Project 2015, where US podiatrists were 'selected' to sit for examination similar to that of MD DO and failed so miserable were deemed a public safety hazard. On paper the curriculum appears similar, but podiatry school IS NOT medical school, and belief that the US government is unaware of of this folly would be silly. Backwoods training programs (in the US pod 'residencies' are NOT recognized as residencies akin to ABMS/LCGME). No changes, have come in decades, mere promises undelivered. Podiatrists wishing parity based on defensive arguments have, or are on the way to being reduced to shoeshine professionals. How about all that 'limb salvation' and 'wound care' and dividing the foot into rear foot and forefoot? A foot is a foot, and DPM training is a far cry from MD training - Many have tried to institute changes such as adding core clerkships, USMLE or ECFMG type testing, but no. The pod leaders refused—And here it is, time's up. Forbidden by many states to take continuing education alongside medical doctors to be burdened with costly same of the same foot material. Why? If the podiatrist is so close to being real doctors why can't they study the actions and reactions to the plethora of human body disorders? Why are pods teaching pods about neurology and pediatrics, diabetes, and a multitude of anomalies? Here's the answer: Send letters. Letters which are unlikely to be read and brace yourselves for a steep cut in reimbursement 'doctor.'

In the US podiatrists are in for some issues. Despite seven years training they are still non physician providers purporting to have the 'same' qualifications as MDs- on paper - Project 2015 failed. There is no 'parity' and finally the US payor system is recognizing this. No changes to podiatry education have occurred in decades, only on paper. The training, compared to medical training is abysmal, and creative billing has caught up with the pretenders who purport themselves as 'surgeons.' In the US, a surgeon finishes MD (also DO) school and does a residency. Podiatry training is not considered 'residency' training, not recognized by the medical community. The time has come to call a pod for what a pod is in the US.

So much anger ,lol . Who said they didn't see it coming? Podiatry US has seen a lot of stuff 'coming' and responded quite well over the years. 7 years of training makes the US Podiatrist very capable. The training is not 'abysmal'. That 'parity' issue is political, not practical and a wise man will know the difference. Please stop already with the ad hominem slurs and attacks on this profession. Not helpful and says more about you, as a person and adds no value to the debate and the effort. If you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Seven years of training to 'glorified nail trimmers.' PLEASE. I take the side that there is not been any change to podiatry, and vociferously espoused by point of view. Podiatrists in the US are NOT residency trained contrary to post MD surgical training, decades of overfilling, the pseudoscience of biomechanics, the so-called 'surgeons' who can't read an EKG. No core clerkships in the 4 year pod schools after the watered down basic sciences: No OB/GYN, Psychiatry, IM, Peds, Surgery Core Clerkships. Get off the podo pedestal. The medical community in the US is ON to podiatry. There are some DPMs who graduated US med schools who've already written documents comparing the so-called 'parity' issues, and abysmal failure of podiatry in the US to keep up with modern medicine. It's pathetic who any disagreement that a DPM =/=MD, and couldn't figure out how to use a stethoscope if one was shoved up their bum. Didn't see it coming? Didn't see 50USD+ for nip and clip. I AM part of the problem and will spend years exposing the sham of podiatry in the US. How about those spiffy continuing medical education courses and websites? Forbidden by pods. Fifty states fifty scopes. Costly continuing podiatry educations. Stop kidding yourself and wake up. Enjoy you're retirement. I am: Retired GS (MD)

dropatoer2 ... are you a disgruntled Podiatrist? I would take your comments more seriously if you had the balls to let the readers know your real identity. As it stands, I won't give this diatribe one more second of my time and attention.

No. I'm a retired general surgeon, MD. Went to pod school and left to attend US med school. You'll know my real identity soon enough. Have been working with other MDs to expose the hoax podiatry perpetrates. You (US) podiatry 'surgeons' have masqueraded for too long. You want my identity for what? Is it to have some joker beat me up? That would make for terrific press. Laser fungus treatments, ankle surgery, shoe inserts, and on and on? Beyond an anion gap. I teach med students and residents, and have the wonderful moments of interviewing pods with chips on their shoulders who have a knowledge base of tapeworms. How much longer will it take to educate students led down the path to debt, despair, and dubious billing. US podiatrists are a drain on an already broken healthcare system -

Maybe a 'troll,' but what again is it unique about anyone disagreeing, with the 'podiatry' establishment? Ban, censor, and lead young people into a profession on the skids. So I'm a 'troll,' podiatry will find its place in the US—Broad minded people incapable of critical thought…much easier to dismiss the reality that there has been no change in this field for decades other than imitative training programs, and a 'surgical board' that's ashamed to use the word podiatry? Who's the troll on US culture now?

Troll time. Soon podiatry in the US will be reduced to its roots. A call to action over 30++ years ago was put out and pods refused it (education). Low GPA low MCAT. No core clerkships…who's kidding who? All the 'how to bill' meetings, bilking US medicare. Finally podiatry will realize the consequences of failure to comply with the main stream in US medicine. It would not be surprising to see restrictions on prescribing for the faux educated. Don't worry, this isn't the US White House looking for 'anonymous'—What are you going to do? Beat me up, shoot me, stab me, stalk me. You'll find out soon enough. Podiatry, ban, censor, brag and call dissent TROLL. As if no one else in healthcare in America reads the pompous 'tough' pod notes who do not have the courage to institute change, just bill bill bill…all the way to the elimination of the field.
