I just had an email asking how much is practical .... about a 1/3 of the 2 days is spent hands on comparing clinical tests (esp the newer ones) and having a practice at some different negative model production methods.

    Mr Payne,

I have heard these camps are fantastic. Are you coming to Sydney sometime soon?

    Regards

Yes. No ties to any company or any product. No barrow to push.

At this stage, the Hilton. Will look at payment options - not sure on that one.

    Hi Craig,

    Sounds fantastic. :D

Promises to be a great course. My question (there's always one eh )

Any recommended reading prior to the course?

    Thank you,

    Mandy

PS. Will be great to put some faces to some names. Any chance of Arena members carrying a recent issue of The Foot, opened at page 14 & folded under the left arm to ensure easy identification.

"Life changing" is the way I heard someone describe it a while back. I have been to 2 of these and I doubt there would be anyone who has been to one that has not made big changes to their clinical practice the next day (unless they already been to one). I can not recommend what Paynie does high enough. Its well worth it.
    Quite refreshing approach!

  11. I would not miss it for the world! Be great to meet a few other of the arenaites (not ettes) as well.

There is no need to prepare - people at all levels seem to get it and get something from it.

    Sounds good Craig

You say that there is no company involvement Ive just had a round robin email from Algeos saying that they are sponsoring this and providing materials.

Obviously promoting both the course and themselves!!

Thanks for bringing this up - I have been meaning to post about this for a few days now (...been 'down and out' with chest infection).

What I assumed to be the question about was about who was behind the seminars?; any hidden agendas?, etc. There is no company involvement, in that I am beholden to no one or retained by no one to have any loyalty to any product or service and have no stake in the promotion of any company, product or service (except the Boot Camps, and maybe, Podiatry Arena!)

Algeos have only just come on board and have pitched in to help me out with some of the 'on the ground' organisation and promotion through their channels (which you obviously got). They are being incredibly generous in what they are doing for what they get in return.

Do you ask the same question of all other conferences, seminars etc that have sponsors?

Makes perfect sense to offset costs.

Only have to open their catalogue to see your face anyway. Haha.

    Looking forward to it.

It was not really about costs; it was more about having someone on the ground in the UK handle things that I can't do from here.

Could you let me know the venues for Newcastle upon Tyne and Glasgow.

Venues still being finalised - negotiating with the Hilton for all of them. They will be confirmed in conifrmation letter after registration; but will post once signed contracts with venues.

  25. The concern with any training event sponsered / run by a company selling a product is that the theory and training will be designed to guide the attendee to use that particular product. This does not preclude a good training event but does make one wary. Some sessions have the feel that they started with the product and reverse engineered the theory to fit.

Algeos, however, sell a huge range of products biomechanical from raw materials and machinery through to finished products and orthotics in a great range of styles and makes. Whether you use the humblest eva pre fab with felt attatched or a full on custom casted KAFO there is a good chance one of they supplied somebody, somewhere in the chain!

Even if the training event was being run by algeos (which its not) they are not selling a single item or product! They have no interest in doing things a certain way. So there would be little concern of training bias even if Craig would be party to such, which he would'nt!

I DO think Algeos are getting something very valuable for their time work and money. I think this dastardly plot has been on the simmer for some years, i've seen their shadowy movements in this area grow ever bolder! I think they are using Craig for this nefarious goal and not for the first time!

I beleive they have a vested interest in increasing the knowledge and skill of UK podiatrists in the field of biomechanics so that more of us can practice biomechanics effectively (and ultimatly use more products). Apart from direct supply to IPPs Algeos also supplies to many large orthotics labs and the NHS.

This goal, to increase our knowledge, skill and understanding of biomechanics, is i beleive, held by algeos, shared by Craig, and is clearly at work in another of Craigs projects, this very arena! And watch out for his co conspiritors! They get everywhere;)

    Kind regards
    Robert

    Hi Craig

In your negotiations with the hotels do you think you can wangle a discount on overnight stays? Hilton in the heathrow area is about £116 per night.

BTW Even though a business and wanting our money I always found Algeos to be fair and open about what they do and their motives. Good company.

    Cheers

Ian, Hilton are holding a `sale` if you book this month. Cheapest room, with breakfast, works out at £82.00, but a group booking might attract more discount.

Unfortunately as we not talking big numbers, the Hilton aren't interested in bulk deals.

    Hi Del

They did have a 50% off offer going for booking in January that made a room and breakfast at around £80 per night. I think this is still available. Failing that it will mean me traveling up twice over the two days in oder to go.

    Cheers

    Hi Ian

check the website £119 +vat for just the room.

No Offers left in feb , travelling back to Heathrow on a Monday morning in the M25 car park is not an option for me I'm afraid.

I have reluctantly withdrawn from the function.

My CPD budget is controlled for the year and this has now exceeded the individual limit.

I hope you all have a great time and good Luck Craig with the tour

    Cheers
    Very dissapointed Del

    That's a shame Derek:empathy:.

Just looked at other hotels nearby in the cheaper range. Premier Inns £54 a night and Holiday Inn Express £46.80 - breakfast an add on but are both in the Bath Road, Heathrow, which is just outside the airport, probably only a 5min drive from the Hilton, if it is going to be held there. As I've got further courses lined up for this year, cannot afford to pay over half the cost of this again on accommodation.

Of course, I would like to know that it is definitely being held at Heathrow before committing myself to booking anything.

    Cheers

    Caroline
