The main purpose of the conference is to provide a forum of information dissemination on clinical biomechanics. The conference will focus on lower limb biomechanics with an emphasis on research evidence to underpin clinical Practice.
Current program includes the following lectures:

This year's conference will be preceded by an EMG workshop on 8 April 2011, Friday. This workshop will be facilitated and delivered by: Prof Jim Richards, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, Dr John Dixon, University of Teesside and Dr Anand Pandyan, Keele University.

Too expensive.....to see Benno Nigg in this country?! Blimey!! You'd normally have to fork out a hefty air fare to catch him speak.

I know conference organisers everywhere are suffering this year due to us "All being in it together" but this years Staffordshire conference looks like a great one to me and is a lot cheaper than other 2 day conferences around.

When times are hard, it's always worth approaching those who run conferences to see if deals can be struck.....Nachi runs the Staffordshire conference.....always worth a quick email....wink wink nudge nudge say no more

Day 0 at SCCB:
Pre-conference EMG workshop - a superb day so far on neuromuscular physiology relevant to EMG, EMG techniques, uses and limitations and data processing and interpretation. Hands on sesh coming up...
Good mix of pods, physios, sport scientists, surgeons and bioengineers. Talks by Prof Jim Richards, Prof Anand Pandyan and Dr John Dixon and a really interactive audience / group
Happy as a pig in.........

 

Day 1: Starting the day with Benno Nigg challenging aims, functional foot types and function of foot orthoses is enough to wake anyone up. Now listening to Mark Lake on motion of the foot and foot typing - I love it when a conference comes together...

 

The last day of SCCB :-( a truly superb evening was had by all at the conference party last night but no one was going to miss the 9.30 start with Benno Nigg kicking off the day with his work on unstable shoes followed by Jim Richards presenting his work on the rehab angel. After coffee we were joined by the din of several thousand bikers passing to deliver Easter eggs to children around Stoke (which elicited an 'aaaaar' from the delegates imagining hairy bikers being all soft at heart!) but we powered through to listen to the scientific presentations. With Lee Short working his usual magic with the f-scan and highly bespoke orthoses to save a gun shot victim's leg right through to a study of hockey shoes by Andy Greenhalgh the conference has delivered some lively discussions extending into the breaks.
This conference for me remains to be an example of what can be achieved with a friendly culture and world class researchers and clinicians all in the same room leaving their egos at the door and getting down to business looking at data together. It's been a privilege to be here
