Just been listening to 5 Live's money programme from last sunday

A business leader said that in his opinion "Google is 8 x less effective, 4 x the price what it used to be."

in accordance with the UK law on libel, I am quoting someone and it was on 5 Live Declan Curry business programme.

other things said, ""we're already saving you money on a quality product"

quality builds loyalty is a strategy

"sale not on, what's wrong with pricing things properly in the 1st place."

Thankfully I no longer need to advertise as I m very busy but did advertise with Yell for a couple of years and only had a couple of calls! I think there is so much advertising out there these days its hard to find any that actually generates business. When I first started in business I advertised in Yellow Pages and would get ten or so calls when the new directory came out. I think people used to sit and read it!

I found the best advertising is using in house "mining" of existing patients. We would send birthday cards to all the patients, reminder cards to those who have not returned in a certain time period, and follow up cards to orthotic patients every 6 months. It really worked.

    Aloha,

It would depend on what you are trying to communicate/sell and to whom.

We find running adds here on Podiatry Arena worth the investment if you are trying to reach footwear specialists and physicians.

It also helps keep this website up and running...

    Hi Simon,

Sounds like a really bizarre comment to me. Did the person speaking have any genuine expertise in the field. I've worked with some of these "business leaders" in the past and whilst they might be very successful in their own field they wouldn't have the first clue about what Google could or couldn't do for small businesses like Podiatry practices.

It seems like a complete inane comment, especially given that the majority of Google's services (with the exception of AdWords) are free.

Most notably, Google Places for Business, which every practice should be on in mho

The diagram below shows a search I've just done for "Podiatry Leeds"

The practices labelled on the map and listed beneath "Leeds Community Healthcare" are all on Google Places for Business.

Seems like pretty good value-add to me to get on Page 1 of the search results for 124,000 results.

AdWords is a different beast and yes Google charges for it but at a cost of 57p per click (for Podiatry Leeds) it also seems like pretty good value for money if you can convert a decent proportion of the clicks.

Just a few thoughts. Hope it helps!

I have been advertising with adwords for a couple of years off and on and it has usually covered the cost and more of the amount I credit.

Recently though £200.00 was debited from my bank account no added to adwords without my authorisation. So far Google are being slow to refund the money. Has anyone else had this problem?

The guy is right, do the maths, the number of companies advertising through google has gone up dramatically over the last few years.
The cost of keywords go up as more are using/wanting to use them, its now a crowded market, same for FBook, you just need to be more creative to get your message heard.
