Where do all the qualified Podiatrists go?? I hear that there are fewer jobs with the NHS so are they available in the private sector? There must be many who have got a job and starting from scratch takes time to generate an income so why has there been very few enquiries to my sale of practice? I was not expecting a flood of enquiries but the response has been disappointing. As I am retiring it would have been nice to pass on a thriving practice but how long do I wait and is it really worth the cost of advertising. Perhaps anyone who has recently bought an existing practice can tell me of their expectations and where they found it advertised so that I can make sure I am reaching the right people. What did you expect to pay? I can’t believe there is no one that wants to take over….

Yes, that is the problem. They successfully finish the course find there are no jobs and emigrate or end up doing something unrelated to podiatry. What a shame. When I puchased new equipment 4 years ago I had difficulty in selling on the still serviceable equipment and some is still in my garage! That should have been a warning to me...!I still think it is sad that a lifetime work will just be closed down for lack of response.

Where is your practise and how much are you selling it for? If I were you I would approach any local universities of podiatry and advertise it. I know of people who would love their own business. I would myself, but don't have the money available to buy one yet.

Hello sussex hen you need to incentivise the sale ie seller finance it a shame you weren't in cheshire or south Wales because i would have liked to find out more unsecured finance is a pain to get from the banks unless you have security I've tried people who have security like home buyer generally are already established. Hope this helps bait and why not post on here advertising the practice its free and its where i would look also podiatry pages is free

If you are not needing the income from your old equipment, there is great need in Trinidad and Tobago for equipment, disposables and dressings. Also for podiatrists, three of the four podiatrists in the Caribbean are due to retire in the next few years, so 1.5 million people will be left with just one podiatrist. Although I was hoping to make a clean break, the idea of offering some financial support may be the way to go. It would be a very sad day to have to close a successful practice. That will leave me with very little to show for a lifetime work...Hopefully with this as an incentive someone will come forward. Thanks for the suggestion. The alternative is to sell the equipment - I will need something for my retirement!

 

I also left pod practice but use my clinical background to lecture to nurses and ODPs at a local University

 

From comments here and my experience in selling my business I have concluded that my initial thought were wrong. It isn't that there are not enough jobs but rather that there are not enough podiatrists! Those successfully completing the course appear to be in such demand that I am not surprised PP does not appeal. After all who would not accept a job with so much more in benefits ie paid holiday & sickness, pension, CPD!

 

Why dont you employ someone as an associate 50/50 split then sell to them in a few years

 

About 2 yrs ago when I wanted to cut down my workload I advertised for an associate with that thought in mind. Fortunately I got someone I could work with but I wasn't exactly inundated with responses! However this podiatrist has indicated that she is not interested in taking over as she would like to develop her own clinic in another town as at this time needed more income so I was in no better position. As I am looking to retirement I did not want to be in the position of continuing to maintain control of the clinic whilst having no clinical input. It could become a source of worry if the podiatrist does not turn up, stock is used at an alarming rate or (as I live locally) I hear that the work is not up to standard.
I think sadly that by the end of this year if no one comes forward to take over then I will close down. I have no doubt other podiatrists in the area will be delighted...

 

Just out of interest , where are you advertising your practice? I checked in the recent issue of Podiatry Now and didn't see any Sussex practices listed for sale.

Thereby hangs anther tale! I had arranged for the ad to be repeated for July and guess what they didn't publish it...!!!! Probably the most important month of the year with the end of year for students and I lost potential inquiries. To add insult to injury I checked the website and as I had paid for June expected it to be there but no wasn't even on the website! After my complaint it was put onto the website and hopefully will stay there all next month but the staff are useless and unreliable so who knows. I am not the only one to lose out for next month either.
