In my opinion, footwear that requires muscular effort to keep it in place on the foot is a bad idea , especially over prolonged periods .

As time passes the toe plantar flexors will tire as will tib anterior . This might well result in discomfort and so discourage , at a sub concious level , foot movement .

In a theater environment this might lead to the feet of a nurse or surgeon being used less to adjust body position and the trunk to being used more , leading to skeletal symptoms in areas such as the lower back or neck and shoulders .

It would be fascinating to compare the small foot positional changes of a toe flexor dependent clog wearing surgeon at the beginning of a long operation and then towards the end .

From post #7 above "There was an increase in the discomfort of the low back and all lower extremity regions " .

Is the "discomfort " spoken of of a level that would affect performance ?
