  2. Unfortunately, the term "hypermobility of the first ray" is still alive and well within the US podiatric surgery profession and literature. I have convinced a few of the prominent lecturers in podiatric surgery to use the term "dorsiflexion stiffness of the first ray". However, it will be a long battle before this useless term of "first ray hypermobility" is totally replaced within the podiatric surgical literature. At the rate it is going, and with the minimal help from my US colleagues in this regard, I will be long gone before "first ray hypermobility" is considered an antiquated term within the podiatric literature.
