    Hey folks ~

Thought I'd make my first post and say I'm very glad to have found a DECENT forum about Podiatry. I tried googling and ended up at a couple different forums that were just, well, mean.

Where exactly does this animosity towards DPM's come from? In a lot of what I was reading, people (who I doubt were students OR DPM's) felt that Podiatry was useless, that a "PT or ortho" could do it, that there is no money to be made. All of the bickering seemed pointless, and only served to drive down peoples interest in learning more about the subject.

I'm working on my biology UG right now. I've been interested in Podiatry for awhile (my mother has severe diabetic foot problems...) and I'm interested in shadowing a doctor in Illinois sometime in the near future.

Hope to be able to contribute around here as I can... thanks.

Glad I found a "nice" place to post!

    Welcome aboard!

I know the two forums you are talking about .... my mum talks about people being evenly balanced .... as they have a chip on each shoulder:p.

I am doing a lot to get this forum moved up in Google rankings - it is a long hard slog, but will get there, so more people can find it!! (just moved up from 600th to 367th for 'podiatry':( )

    Google

    Hey ~

I found ya off of epodiatry.com's student resources...

I'm glad you're using the same format as SDN though... very easy to navigate.

Good luck on getting on the google top ten... that evil bad forum is number one if you're searching for "Podiatry Forum." Blech.

!!!!!!!! just noticed we are number 3 for "Podiatry Forum" in Google !!!!! ---- it was about 20th a few days ago .... what a good start to the day (at least here in Aussie.... if it wasn't for the rain!) .... we have strategies in place - getting 3rd for Podiatry Forum is a bit better than we expected at this stage:D

Now the target is numero uno .... if anyone has a website and can put a link to us (see here) - it all helps.

Podiatry Arena is the No 1 site on the new Microsoft MSN search site (www.msn.com) and No 1 for Podiatry, at least when I just didi a search!! :), but it seems is has given priority to Australian Sites

Podiatry Arena is hosted on servers based in Perth, Western Asutralia. When you go to Yahoo, Google or the new MSN and request 'only sites from Australia', we do OK because the IP address is in the range assigned to sites based in Australia (less competition for the rankings). You get different results on the same search engines if you go for global sites (more competition).

Google is a tougher nut to crack than Yahoo and MSN, but they are the market leaders (at least for now).

    Hey ~

Well I think all that publicity is great ;) This forum can only get better!

Why is it, by the way, that the "other" message boards seem to play host to so much bad press? It seems like every honest person who is looking for career information gets shot down because "Podiatry isn't really medicine" and "you just want to be called a doctor" or "only the people who couldn't get into a REAL medical school go into Podiatry"... I'm really interested in finding out of this is a reality in the "real world" or if, sadly, these people just don't have enough to do with their lives they resort to this!

There was a post at the 'other' forum a few weeks back from a freelance journalist who does work for Podiatry Online - she was writing a story about this negativity. The latest newsletter from Podiatry Online was a few days ago and there was nothing in it .... I will post it here if Podiatry Online carry the story.

BTW (By The Way) - that other forum is Podiatry Forum (turn your pop up blocker on before you visit if you don't want all the crap coming up on your screen): http://www.network54.com/Forum/23927 - you can see what we are talking about!

(I just noticed that we rank number one on MSN search for 'Podiatry Forum' and they are number 2 ;) - what a good day)

The other forum that full of negativity is the:

    Almost Uncensored Podiatry Forum
...again turn on your pop up blocker if you don't want all the crap coming up on your screen.

They seem to have lost about 12 months worth of messages and only a few new recent posts.

Just look at the title of some of the threads eg "Dear Basement Dweller", just because they said something positive about podiatry!!

Things are improving with searchengine results, No 1 for Podiatry and Podiarty Forum on MSN, No 20 and 2 on Yahoo, and No 89 and 2 on Google. You'll get there soon Craig!! :) Not a bad improvement from 300+ last week.

    Hi all

It is at least a bit of relief that other countries have a them and us attitude towards different practitioners within the same profession, I thought the UK was the only one to suffer

I think this site is excellent mainly due to the fact that people do not rise to the bait. The academic content is excellent, and it is heartening to be treated as a colleague (albeit in cyberspace) irrespective of ability and professional training body.

Cheers and long may it continue :D

I forgot about this site: Podiatry Bytes until this thread reminded me... (again, turn your pop-up blocker on unless you want to get bombarded with the crap) - the site has not been updated in 4 years, so everything is old news....all I can say is:

It takes an enormous amount of hard ward just to make this look so easy so thanks again Craig for your dedication and enless energy. You are a true inspiration to all and a superb embassador for podiatry.

You just have to love the crap that goes on out there --- for negativity, have a look at this is in the Canadian Podiatry Forum.

EdYip is fighting the good fight against those who want to remain nameless.

Hey Ed - if you read this, spend more time hanging out here - we are much more fun and friendly!! .... and our Canada Forum needs some posts. Can you get your friends and colleagues in Canada to help out here?

I think a lot of it has to do with people who are ignorant to our profession. Also, much has to do with the training within our own ranks. Hopefully with the new 3 year program requirements for podiatry, this will help. I've always said that "podiatrist should be collegues not competitors".
