Pain on the ball of my left foot

Hi, I really appreciate anyone's help here.

I never had problems with my feet until about a year ago. About a year ago, I bought new running shoes and the store person convinced me to spend $80 on insoles. I had never bought in soles before this. He gave me a custom fitting, all kinds of fancy equipment technology, etc.. I regret the whole thing.

Ever since, which was over a year ago, I have had problems with the ball (and sometimes toes) of my right foot. The ball of my foot started hurting whenever I put the new Brooks Ghost with insole on. I stopped wearing it. I went back and got a custom fit again at the shoe store. I wore it with and without the insole and the same problems started again. I kept going back to my very old shoe and eventually the pain would go away. I returned the Brooks shoes and just stuck with my old show. But now my old shoe is just getting so old and I have to replace it.

Last week, I tried buying Mizuna's - a shoe that has always worked well for me. I put it on/wore it a couple of times and the pain is back. What can I do?

I am female, in my 50s, 5'3, healthy weight/120-125 lbs, active, but not a hardcore athlete. I will play tennis for an hour or two, hike for 2-4 hours, do 1 hour nike work outs. I am active/do something 5 times a week. I have always used a running shoe for all these activities and never had problems.

None of my other shoes (old ones) cause me pain. This only seems to happen with new sports shoes after I do something sporty.

    Any suggestions?
