Arenaline/Epinephrine as a masking agent?

Does anyone have any information on adrenalin, and whether it can be used as a masking agent for banned substances in sport?

Can't say I have heard of its use as a masking agent. It is banned on its own as a stimulant.

hmmm.. there is something missing here..

 

A quick google search produce no matches. Craig is right since epinephrine (i.e. adrenaline) is a banned substance (#95 on list below).

If you look at the physiological functions of adrenaline and the mechanisms of action of other different banned drugs, I trying to think of what affect adrenaline would have on those other drugs to mask it ... while I not close to being too knowledgeable on this (I do teach the Drugs in Sport to the students), ...I can't think through what it would be useful to mask.

 

Nope that is not it... adrenaline use in middle distance runners appears rife, but everything I read indicates it would have no performance advantage, and it may cause you to drop dead..

And it is legal for use as an anti asthmatic with prescription. So how come there are so many elite middle distance runners with asthma???

 

I can see why they would want to use it as a THEORETICAL performance enhancer, its just the masking effect of it I not so sure on. For eg, the bronchodilation effects of adrenaline could theoretically be a performance enhancer as it makes sense that it should ... its just that no one has "clinically" shown that this bronchodilation effects would actually lead to an increased performance.

The actual performance enhancing of a lot of drugs (and things like altitude training) are still largely theoretical, as most have not actually been "clinically" shown to enhance performance, though most of them probably do (eg EPO) ... thats why they banned!
