Which UK school of podiatry?

I am a mature student and have been offered a place at 6 different schools. Are there any paticular institutions which stand out in terms of quality or employability upon graduation. My choices are Salford, Huddersfield, Northampton, Matthew boulton (birmingham), cardiff and plymouth.

Hello Dermot,
Have you visited any of the educational establishments you mentioned? I strongly suggest you take the time to contact the admissions tutors at each of the podiatry schools and organise some time looking around the department and the university. Also as a mature student, your geographical location maybe a factor, so travel links might be worth investigating too.
Best of luck with your future studies. If you end up here in Salford, don't forget an umbrella (or stay in the pub all day, it's relatively dry in there).

I too am a mature student and am in the 1st year of my degree at Plymouth, having moved from North West. I love it here! I think it's a great uni and has undergone a lot of modernisation which is still ongoing. Although the course is very demanding you have to give yourself a break from time to time, and what better way of relaxing than taking in all the wonderful coastline and countryside around the south west. The city is also undergoing major reconstruction and you have the added bonus of the Hoe and the Barbican if you just fancy a stroll by the sea. So come on down and visit us, you won't need the brolly, just your shorts and flip flops!!!

Hi Dermot,

I qualified at University of Brighton (Eastbourne), but was in the same predicament as you before choosing the school. I took time to visit all 6 offers i had, and was extremely glad i did. Obviously it is personal preference as to where you decide to go, but i certainly ruled out a couple straight away. one place i did not even bother going past reception !!!
Bearing in mind, it will be your home for 3 years, you need to feel happy and comfortable.

First of all congrats on choosing podiatry. It is a wicked thing to do. I'm in my second year of podiatry at University of Brighton (eastbourne) and i love it here. There is a sense of community here. All the tutors are really helpful too. I went to Northhampton uni when i was looking and hated it but podbird said it is a personal choice. Perversely, for reasons unconnected to podiatry I have chosen Salford. Having visited the university I was impressed by their facilities and recieved a warm welcome from the staff, it was my leading contender anyway. In many ways it's a relief that, as a mature student, other factors play such a big role in "the choice". I approach S eptember with excitement and trepidation.

 

Obviously you have now chosen but should anyone still be deciding when reading this. I'm currently finishing 2nd year at Queen Margaret Uni in Edinburgh and am happy to answer any questions...
