Evaluation of a primary care biomechanics service

We are currently approaching the end of a pilot biomechanics service within a primary care setting. We are evaluating every part of our service at the request of the commissioners and in addition to this have recently been tasked (with little time) with collating literature/supporting evidence on the benefits of early biomechanical intervention that support our plans to provide this care pathway (i.e. direct referral into biomechanics service).

We realise that there is a lot of literature available which is condition/pathology specific to support the use of (early) biomechanical intervention, however, we are struggling to find data that shows a direct comparison between biomechanical intervention and alternative referral routes, such as orthopaedics/orthotist which exist within secondary care.

We would be particularly interested if anyone else has been through a similar process in setting up a primary care biomechanics service and has knowledge of any supporting stats/data in the public domain.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Robthepod,

I have had some experience with this kind of business case. I do have a couple of referenced reports that I would be happy to send you; including arguments in support of 'patient centred care'. I will need to remove some of the detail but there are some strong points to support your argument. If you send me a message with your e-mail address I will happily send you what I can.
