"..The New Zealand professional health and disability work force consists largely of three major groups: the medical professions, the nursing professions and the allied health professions.

The allied health professions each have a distinct, specialised body of knowledge and skills, and are actively working with people accessing health and disability services across a range of settings; working either independently, in private practice, or as part of the wider health team in public or private practice."

The Allied Health Services Sector Standard NZS 8171:2005 is "the result of collaboration between allied health professionals (representing societies, associations and providers from the public and private sector), a consumer representative, Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) and Standards New Zealand."

As ACC wanted to ensure consistency in terms of safety and quality, they contracted Standards New Zealand (SNZ) to develop a national standard for allied health services NZS 8171:2005. Two audit workbooks for physiotherapy and chiropractic services have been developed to be used by providers and auditing agencies like HDANZ to prepare for, and to audit against, Allied Health Sector Standards.

The Allied Health Standard is now operational and Allied Health services can be certified against this.

HDANZ is accredited by International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) to issue certification (accreditation) against a range of New Zealand approved standards and AS/NZS ISO 9001: 2000, including the following standards:


NZS 8142: 2000 Infection Control Standard
NZS 8134: 2001 Health and Disability Sector Standards

NZS 8143: 2001 National Mental Health Standard
NZS 8141: 2001 Restraint and Minimisation and Safe Practice Standard
NZS 8153: 2002 Health Records
NZS 8156: 2002 Ambulance Sector Standard

NZS 8158: 2003 Home and Community Support Sector Standard

Our formal Designation and Accreditation status enables us to provide independent comprehensive audits and certification (accreditation) that support health and disability services quality development. We are able to work with health and community services not covered by the "Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act" and to agree with them a package of Approved Standards that result in us issuing an independent certificate aligned with that specific health or disability service.

The outcome of this process is a 3 year certificate of achievement with a follow-up review (Surveillance Audit) usually at 12 month intervals until the re-certification. Depending on the size and type of the service the follow-up may be able to be done at the mid-point of up to 18 months.

I had just noticed a few physios around that had HDANZ accreditation and was wondering if any Pods had taken it on.
I have looked at their website but nothing more then that.

As an afterthought ,

, I wonder how contracting an organisation like this would sit as a way of meeting the quality assurance portion of the Pod' Boards prof' devel't programme.
