Mark Geier, MD is a critic of using Thimerosal (a form of mercury) in vaccines, especially for children. His criticisms and revelations became a major thorn in the side of vaccine companies.

In April of this year, he received a letter telling him that a secret hearing had been held by the Maryland Board of Physicians, and they had decided that he was “a danger to the public.”

Because of that his license was being immediately suspended.

At a hearing in May, neither Dr. Geier nor his attorney were allowed to examine any of the state’s witnesses (the state refuses to release their names), nor would they be allowed to produce any witnesses or testimony of their own. In fact, at no time before either of the hearings would the Maryland Board of Physicians tell Dr. Geier precisely what he had been accused of.

For more detailed information, go to The Attack on Mark and David Geier

    The case is ongoing.

This is happening to MDs across the US. Do you think it could also happen to DPMs?

Good job by the the Maryland Board of Physicians in banning him. The public needs to be protected from fools who espouse such nonsense as him. I see the 5 other Medical Boards in other states have also banned him and there is a hearing coming up in Illinois.

He was actually banned for the use of chemical castration of disabled children, nothing to do with this views on thimerosal. Nothing like the facts to get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.

There is more mercury in a piece of fish than there is in a vaccine. I don't see the conspiracy nutters calling for fish to be banned.

Very Interesting. I have researched you stated about Dr Grier and could find nothing regarding chemical castration. Perhaps you would be so kind to point me to where you read this.

However, this is the information I do know is factual:

The Geiers have been a mainstay in the State legislative actions banning Thimerosal in vaccines across the US, and the world. More than half of the States are involved in Thimerosal ban legislation. Already, New York, Delaware, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, California, and Washington state have legislated those bans.

Thimerosal caused issues including two extremely shocking revelations: (a) Thimerosal in vaccines is 300 times more toxic to the human brain than the bacteria in the vaccines it is designed to destroy, (b) there is a Thimerosal substitute that is twenty times more destructive to bacteria and it has NO affect in the human brain.

David Geier was appointed by the Governor of Maryland to the Maryland Commission on Autism, and as such, has significantly effected the quality of treatment recommendations offered to Autistic children in the State of Maryland. I guess the Governor of Maryland thought that Dr Geier would have enough free time (after performing all those chemical castrations) to also be on the Maryland Commission on Autism.

Mark and David Geier, because of their research into the question "Why do boys get Autism at a rate higher than girls," found that Thimerosal interacts with testosterone, increasing it in children, causing "precocious puberty." They then found that the use of the drug Lupron reduces those effects, and significantly reduces incidents of violence, and acting-out, in Autistic children, sometimes almost removing Autistic behavior.

The Geiers set up, with every health insurance company in the US, pre-approved protocols, using Labcorp testing, for the use of Lupron, and the payment for that testing and that drug, directly to the lab and pharmacies on a case-by-case basis.

The Geiers, because of their activities, are a MAJOR thorn in the side of the vaccine industry. No conspiracy theory here, just factual.

    The Attack on the Geiers:

On April 27th, 2011, Mark Geier MD got a post-office delivered letter telling him that a secret hearing had been held by the Maryland Board of Physicians, and they had decided in that secret meeting (no records kept) that, suddenly, he was "a danger to the public," and that "because of that his license was being immediately suspended." A further, one hour, hearing was scheduled for May 11th, 2011 where neither Mark Geier MD, nor his attorney, would be able to examine any of the State's so-called witnesses (the State refuses to release the names), nor would they be allowed to produce any witnesses, nor testimony, of their own. More, at no time before either of the hearings, would the Maryland Board of Physicians tell Mark Geier MD what he was supposedly accused of.

I don't know about you, but I find this shocking and deplorable. (Maybe Dr Geier didn't have time to attend this secret hearing because he was administering so many chemical castrations).

    So what really happened

n August 14th, 2006 a woman named Lisa Randall filed a long, complicated, Board Complaint (attached) against Mark Geier MD, using, as the basis for her complaint, a series of articles about the Geiers written by another woman named Kathleen Seidel.

Lisa Randall is the mouthpiece for the multi-million dollar funded vaccine promotional group Vaccine Safety Working Group.

Kathleen Seidel is one strange bird - an apparently unemployed librarian(?) with no visible income, she claims on her blog/website that brain damage "is a gift" and that physicians, or parents, who claim otherwise, should be punished (play the Twilight Zone music here). She is, to me, a whack-job cyberstalker, who fits right in with the pseudo-skeptics I describe below. The Geiers made the mistake of NOT legally reining her in a long time ago.

A second complaint was filed in 2006 by a doctor who had referred a patient to Mark Geier MD. This doctor didn't like the course of the treatment, but the patient's parents were completely happy then, and now.

A third complaint was, I think, filed by a "plant." A woman brought her child into the clinic for evaluation in 2005. She was sent, with her child, to the lab. She never went. Three years later (2008) she's back in the office, claiming she wants to restart. Mark Geier MD ordered an ultrasound on the child, which a technician performed. Once again, the woman and her child were sent to the lab for tests. She went there but would only allow one of the tests. She was never heard from again until her name was identified on the third complaint.

These were the only legitimately filed complaints. The first was filed in 2006, the last in 2008. There are no others on file, and no others were ever presented to Mark Geier MD. But, no one knows how many under-the-table complaints were filed. I suspect, however, that there were a steady stream - all filed, or instigated, by vaccine interests.

On the basis of these three complaints the Maryland Board of Physicians subpoenaed a copy of EVERY lab report ever ordered by Mark Geier's Maryland clinic, including those ordered by other physicians in the practice. From those the board gleaned a very comprehensive list of Geier's patients, all of which, it seems, they called, fishing for any unhappy patients. They found none. In fact, they found the opposite.

In five years of investigation no charges were ever filed. The Board representatives made it clear that the so-called charges were spurious, and that no action would be taken. And there were no new complaints - at least public complaints.

Facts, just simply the facts. No conspiracy here. If you believe that, you must also believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny!

So, let´s talk about the players in this game.....

On one side you have the Geiers, and the massive Autism movement demanding solution to their problems - a group of parents who followed the rules, took their child to the Pediatrician they trusted who vaccinated the child, and watched their child's mental functions disappear - only to be told by that same pediatrician "it wasn't the vaccines..."

On the other side you have the vaccine industry teetering on the edge of collapse, looking, desperately, for a way to keep the profits flowing. They may make a lot of money, but their costs and overhead are massive. Can you, for instance, imagine what it costs, just in the US, to lobby 50 State legislatures constantly? Then there is the massive numbers of lobbyists they need to employ just for the Federal Congress. More, flying all those Pediatricians to conferences in Hawaii, Paris, etc. isn't cheap. Then there all those ex-cheerleaders (called Detail Men) they need to keep trained to arrange birthday parties for doctor's children. Of course, even though their manufacturing costs are low, they still have to pay to have those vaccines made in those, un-inspected by the FDA (or anyone), putrid hovels in China and the third World.

I could go on and on, but I won't. I think you get the point.

By the way, I think you should contact Dr Geier's attorney and inform him that Dr Geier is performing all those chemical castrations. I am sure he would thank you for that information.

That is why he is suspended. If his lawyers do not understand that, then it is time for him to get some new lawyers.

You are coming across as nothing more than just another one of the nutty conspiracy theorists. What you quoted are not facts. They are just nonsense that anyone can post on the internet and you fell for it.

You need to watch these two videos:

I watched the video and read the article posted in Health and Fitness. Frankly, I am amazed at how you are responding to them.

First, the article in Health and Fitness, the very first sentence reads:

"An autism doctor who operates clinics in St. Peters and Springfield, Ill., has been suspended in two states for ALLEGED mistreatment of children."

Alleged is the key word. Anyone can allege anything. The key point in law is Due Process and proving what you have alleged. I have done my homework. I can not find anything (yet) that supports the states allegations. Maybe you can. If so, point me in that direction.

By the way, just because you do not agree with a physicians protocol in practice (in this case using Lupron to reduce Testosterone levels in precocious children) is NOT a valid reason to revoke a physician license (in a secret meaning, no less). That is a total violation of due process.

The videos you supplied, in my opinion, are just plain stupid. A lot of naming calling, allegations, childish humor, etc etc. If you find them interesting, so be it.

In my opinion, Dr Geier is a well respected researcher. His opinions may differ from some mainstream health organizations. For instance the Institute of Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics disagree with his research linking vaccines to autism. But that is not a reason to take away a person's livelyhood. (I find it interesting that you have not commented on the Medical Boards violating due process. Or possibly, you do not believe in due process. You seem to indicate that when you said, "Good job by the Maryland Board of Physicians in banning him").

Dr Geier's patients adore him (read my comments in my last post). He has helped many patients. So far, the state has not produced one child that he has harmed, even through they ALLEGE he has.

Dr Fowler and DaVinci, if anyone has fallen for misinformation on the internet, I believe it's you. It seems that you believe anything the Medical Boards allege. I don't, I ask for proof. If that makes me one of those nutty conspiracy theorists (as you put it DaVinci), so be it.

And you still have not answered my inquiry about Dr Geier being banned for the use of chemical castration of disabled children. Where did you read this, was it another allegation that you took as factual. Again, I have found nothing!!!

By the way DaVinci, is DaVinci your last name, first name. And, who are you. Are you a Podiatrist, Physician, Researcher, plumber. What?

What nonsense. All those Boards will not suspend someone unless they had a valid reason.
He is not well respected! He is a dangerous charlatan!
Davinci showed you the links! The newspaper (which has no agenda) reported it. The stuff you are quoting from is from a conspiracy theory site that has an agenda and is clearly distorting the facts to suit their agenda. You have fallen for it!

    Craig,

There you go again. Stating as fact, what is simply your opinion. Something you have a history of doing, so often.

If you feel Dr Geier is a dangerous charlatan, you have a right to your opinion. But it is only YOUR opinion.

Law, Thompson and Sermer all provide their slant on how people process information, or misinformation. Interesting, but not compelling (again in my opinion).

If you refer to using Lupron to reduce testosterone levels in precocious children "chemical castration of disabled children", God help us! What a total distortion of his research.

If there is no one else who wishes to make an informed comment or give an opinion (not based on emotion), please step up.

Otherwise it is time to close this thread.

No its not my opinion. It is a fact. All those medical boards that have struck him off agree its a fact. They do not suspend people lightly and they do not suspend people without evidence.
He has done no research one that! He was using it dangerously which is why he was suspended! Which bit of that do you not get? This has nothing to do with his misguided and false views on vaccine that were based on the lie and fraud by Wakefield.
The only one here that is uninformed is you. Your track record speaks for itself.

    Craig,

As I have stated twice before, apparently Dr Geier's license was suspended by the Maryland Medical Board in a secret meeting without due process (he was denied the opportunity to defend himself), something you seem not to be concerned about. Do you condone violating due process of law?

    Professor Rothbart

  13. Aw sheesh Brian, don't you have enough to do defending your own actions without taking on this guys as well?

    Seriously brother, get a grip.

And you know what else they did? They took their children to McDonalds, trusted the FDA to make sure that their was nothing toxic in Mc Nuggets, watched them EAT the Mc Nuggets, AND THEN THE CHILDREN GOT AUTISM!!! And McDonalds? Well they just said "it wasn't the nuggets!". B*****s.

You talk of Craig representing his opinions as fact after coming out with this? OK then, those pesky paediatricians told the parents "it wasn't the vaccines" on the basis that there is exactly NO evidence that vaccines cause Autism. So when you infer that they do, on what evidence do you base this? In the words of Grand moff tarkin, "I get tired of asking this", but do you have any evidence? If so, put up. If not, shut up.

Or is it just your opinion. In which case what exactly is the opinion of a podiatrist who has based his work on MSK podiatry (and I use the term loosely) worth, when talking about the finer points of immunology and childhood autism?

I would suggest its worth about a puff of warm methane.
Ooooo, numbers. They look all sciencey and stuff. Do tell, on what study is this figure based, and how exactly does one measure "toxicity" in a bacteria? Lucky for the people reporting it that its such a nice round number isn't it! 300 times. Exactly. Who'd have thought. And lucky that ALL the vaccines which use Thimerosal are for bacteria and that they ALL have exactly the same toxicity. Because otherwise this would just be a meaningless figure, plucked from the air to scare people by people who think all vaccines are for bacteria. But it can't be that now can it. So do tell Brian, how is "toxic" measured and how come its only bacteria.

    Really.

So to be clear, you are inferring that the medical community at large is, secretly, meeting to suspend the license of this guy, not for good medical reasons, but because "Geiers, because of their activities, are a MAJOR thorn in the side of the vaccine industry". Get a dictionary and look up "conspiracy theory". That is EXACTLY what this is.

I'm certain you've looked into this Brian, as will have the boards who've taken his license away. So perhaps you'd provide the references for these "findings". Or is this just their "opinion" as well.

Besides, if memory serves, your magic insoles also cure autism don't they? Could have just used those!

  14. Since we like a bit of evidence here, here's a bit.

Thimerosal was largely removed from vaccines in the US and the UK in 2001.

"Thimerosal in vaccines". Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food and Drug Administration. 2007-09-06

As can't be clearly seen by the drop in Autism rates in 2002.

Szpir M (2006). "Tracing the origins of autism: a spectrum of new studies". Environ Health Perspect 114 (7): A412–8.

Huge change in the numbers for Autism when they took Thimerosal out of most of the vaccines as you can clearly see. Clearly a major causal factor.

And imagine. 10 years AFTER the FDA state that Thimerosal should be removed from vaccines (mainly to improve public confidence), they suddenly up and decide its time this guy loses his licence for being a critic of a chemical they've already said people should not use. As you do.

Good job he's not just crying persecution to give a good reason he's being struck off isn't it.

    But to answer the OP.
Yes, it could. I suspect that DPMs, like MDs, lose their license if they play fast and loose with the science, or indeed misbehave in other ways. Anyone know of any examples?

Nothing like an inconvenient fact to ruin a good conspiracy theory. Maybe based on that evidence they should put the Timerosal back! Thats why those books i mentioned above are so important - they try to explain why the conspiracy nutters ignore such disconfirmatory evidence. Clearly Brian has fallen for it. Why are we not surprised by that?

I was involved with our state licensing board for 5 years. We were well aware of the litigation consequences of getting it wrong. I do not believe what Brian is saying for one minute about due process being followed by the various medical boards that suspended Geier (maybe one Board could make a minor procedural error, but 6 of them?). In fact, given Geier's controversial views I would suspect that they would have been especially careful in coming to their decision. Based on my experiences with our Board, I do not doubt they would have made the right decision. The website that Brian is quoting from is obviously being economical with the truth.

  17. NO drpod, it's EXACTLY 300 times more toxic than ALL of the "bacteria". Figure like that could only come from a well carried out study. Certainly doesn't sound like a figure plucked from the air on a dodgy website does it?

    Shame on you you cynic!!

I missed that comment from drpod. Yes it was obviously cynical, but this is the exact logic the conspiracy nutters are using. If the incidence of autism went up when thiomersal was removed from vaccines, then that must have been the cause. Lets start a campaign to get it put back :pigs:

I thought the alledged increase in autism was due to other more minor conditions such as Asperger's being re-classifed as a form of autism.

  20. Aspergers is not the only thing. Lots of things on the ADHD spectrum are now classed as autism. Come to that, being an ELF is sometimes diagnosed as autism as well. Not for a second wishing to downplay the seriousness of any of the genuine spectrum conditions, we now see children diagnosed autistic who 10 years ago would have been diagnosed as being "a rowdy little S***" and treated with a crude but effective form of aversion therapy known as a "a ding round the lug hole".

It's much more palatable to admit to a child with an illness than to admit to poor parenting skills.

The autism "graph" simply does not match any kind of trends in vaccination. The two are not linked.

Unfortunately, you do not appear to be aware of what is happening in the United States.

In a paper published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, Andrew Schlafly, Esq. states:

"State Medical Board officials have never had to explain their actions to anyone outside of their group. The have enjoyed immunity and expect never to be held accountable to anyone, regardless of how they abuse their power. They function unrestrained, confident that state courts will rubber stamp their decisions.

They have increasingly subjected {targeted healtchare providers} to an abusive power more commonly associated with a dictatorship or tyrannical form of government. These medical boards have a history of inflicting unjust, arbitrary punishments against physicians"

This article was published as a result of hearings against the Texas Medical Board by the Texas House of Representatives in October 2007. Unfortunately what happened to Dr Geier in Maryland and in Texas, are not an isolated events.

  24. You're fine. He was kind enough to write his views down for us. He said the days of no over site are over and that s good enough for me.

Point is, the guys in question misbehaved. They are entitled to believe that Thimerosal brings on "early puberty" in boys, although given that they have no evidence, and given that Thimerosal is not used any more it's a bit of a stretch. As Private citizens they can hold that view, even if it IS irrational, unproven, and flies in the face of what their peers believe.

But using Lupron to Supress Testosterone, to surpress puberty on the basis of that belief!? No, that one CAN'T do. Yeah it might reduce "acting out". So would lorazepam or Zopiclone. Hell why not just "get them done" like we do dogs to reduce THEIR aggression. Because its barbaric that's why.

They believe vaccines delay puberty and cause autism IN THE FACE OF MASSIVE EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. They are performing potentially harmful, untested medicine which has no basis in evidence whatsoever.

So, to recap, $5-6 k per month, to give testosterone supressing drugs to children with NORMAL testosterone levels and NORMAL puberty onsets in order to chill them out some.

Yeah, poor victimised Drs. Cry me a river.

    Oh and
Yeah why not. I mean if you're going to do something as profound as to mess with hormone balances in young children to try to delay puberty there's no reason to actually SEE the kid to assess them is there!

Well never mind that. (Insert insole joke here. I can't be bothered).

From what I read, I'm reassured that they HAVE lost their licenses! Only disturbed it took so long.

Not much. I do cover it in the paediatrics course with the students as it is an important public health issue and its a good topic to address issues of how the media handle scientific issues; how the conspiracy nutters ignore the evidence; its a good topic to address issues like confirmation basis; how snake oil salesmen operate; how a whole industry developed out of a lie by Wakefield, but now his fraud has been shown, this is a good topic to illustrate issues like the persistence of discredited beliefs .... so not directly related to podiatry but from an educational point of view its a fantastic topic to develop some critical thinking and evaluation (or how not to believe bull****) skills in the students. This thread has provided me with another resource to use for that teaching! There is also this thread we had going on this for a while: Anyone following the MMR vaccine and Autism debate? . Those skills are certainly transferable when it comes to other areas of analysis like clinical biomechanical theories and things like barefoot running.

I learned a lot about critical analysis from the early Rothbart threads.

Also, once a piece of BS is out in the world, it falls to is to label it as such. Silence is tacit acceptance.

    Mark Geier

Mark Robin Geier (born 1948) is an American former physician and controversial professional witness who testified in more than 90 cases regarding allegations of injury or illness caused by vaccines.[2][3] Since 2011, Geier's medical license has been suspended or revoked in every state in which he was licensed over concerns about his autism treatments and his misrepresentation of his credentials to the Maryland Board of Health, where he falsely claimed to be a board-certified geneticist and epidemiologist.[4]

Mark and his son David are frequently cited by proponents of the now-discredited claim that vaccines cause autism. Geier's credibility as an expert witness has been questioned in 10 court cases.[5] In 2003, a judge ruled that Geier presented himself as an expert witness in "areas for which he has no training, expertise and experience."[2] In other cases in which Geier has testified, judges have labeled his testimony "intellectually dishonest," "not reliable" and "wholly unqualified."[2] Another judge wrote that Geier "may be clever, but he is not credible."[6]

Geier's scientific work has also been criticized; when the Institute of Medicine reviewed vaccine safety in 2004, it dismissed Geier's work as seriously flawed, "uninterpretable", and marred by incorrect use of scientific terms.[2] In 2003, the American Academy of Pediatrics criticized one of Geier's studies, which claimed a link between vaccines and autism, as containing "numerous conceptual and scientific flaws, omissions of fact, inaccuracies, and misstatements."[7] In January 2007, a paper by the Geiers was retracted by the journal Autoimmunity Reviews.[3] New Scientist reported that the supposed institutional review board (IRB) that Geier claimed approved his experiments with autistic children was located at Geier's business address and included Geier, his son and wife, a business partner of Geier's, and a plaintiff's lawyer involved in vaccine litigation.[8] The Maryland State Board of Physicians referred to it as a "sham IRB" that did not meet the requirements of state or federal law.[4]
