    Hi

I worked in a small private practice until recently and we used the voucher system still purely due to the cost of installing the electronic system. It is a little time consuming but what it saves in dollars means a lot of smaller practices will probably continue to use it.

I use a GPRS eftpos terminal from the commonwealth bank. It's 54.95 a month including insurance and rental and I will never go back to paper.
You don't have to follow up weeks later to check payments arrived. It's in your nominated bank account within 24hours!
Way more efficient, I wish dva would use eftpos without hicaps

A hicaps terminal only costs $38.10 to rent per month and there is no charge for processing Medicare via the terminal. You need to have a security key (supplied by Medicare free of charge) to access payment reports on the web.

We no longer bulk bill at all, but for those wishing to bulk bill elecrtonically - this is definitely the way to go. Payment is generally made within 24-48 hours.

Yea I would've used hicaps but I am mobile so the eftpos machine is my best option!

    Hello The Aussie,
Where do you source a mobile EFTPOS & what is the rental? Didn't know they existed until I saw one at the local pizza shop recently.
    Thanks,
    Kara

    Hi Kara
go to the business banking through your bank and ask for help re:mobile eftpos terminals. I ordered mine last year through the commonwealth bank. Be aware though, that only certain eftpos terminals do both mobile eftpos and can swipe medicare cards, so make sure you say it is going to be using medicare.
Mine is $54.95 a month. They set it up to deposit into one of your accounts. Normally mine are in the account within 24hours. I'm happy to pay it, just so I am not following up medicare statements which drive me nuts!
I think 3 of the 4 major banks last year actually had an area dedicated to eftpos for health professionals on the websites (after a bit of searching) that explained the type of eftpos machines we could rent and also use for medicare!

    Hope that helps

If you use a practice management system ( like Frontdesk) on your computer you can claim both Medicare and DVA through your internet connection.
You do not need an eftpos or hicaps terminal for this function, just the internet. Big saving in staff time just a couple of mouse clicks does it all. No double data entry, less chance of mistakes or rejected claims.

The payments normally go into your bank account overnight or within a couple of days at the most. Plus Frontdesk will print you a monthly Medicare report so you can reconcile these payments against your bank account. A big saving in bookkeeping time. Plus you do not have to wait for 8-9 weeks for your money.
