Anybody have any ideas about the % of the pop that wears o's and how it has changed over time? In Australia, USA or elsewhere? Thanks

    Moose,

I think you need to define your question a bit more.

What do you mean by "orthotic" do you include off the shelf, custom made, a toe splint, a rubber arch filler, etc.? And do you what the incidence or prevalence. People currenlty wearing an orthosis, those who have ever worn an orthosis, thiose prescribed devices, but never worn them etc.

I don't think such a study has been done, but smaller surveys have probably been carried out, so using that information you would have to do some modeling.

Thanks for your reply - I am frightened that the more i define it the less studies there will be! I expect there might be 0 to 2 of them so I'll read 'em all.

I'm only talking about foot o's. Ideally I'd like to quote a study along the lines of "in 1980, 0.5% of the pop used custom made funct o's. In 1990, 1.5%, 2000= 4.5%" (obviously I have made that up-don't quote me).

or equally useful would be In 1980 the orth laboratory business generated $1.50, 1n 1990, $400K and in 2000 $47million.

However beggars as they say can't be choosers - so if anyone knows of a study even vagely related - please name it. I might be able to hammer it into the square hole after all. Cheers
