HTM2010 autoclave standards advice please

hi all,happy new year.

i am looking at purchasing a new autoclave before returning to work in february.
i had been intended to buy the eschmann little sister 2010 (used little sister in nhs and seemed reliable machine) as it says it is htm2010 compliant on canonbury's website for example.
however another company with a better price for the lil sis says it deosn't meet htm2010 standard...........because it doesn't use single use water. he tried to steer me to the podiaclave (i suspect that he's trying to sell what he has in stock at present).
i may have misunderstood but i thought all along that the standard was 134degC plus printer/downloadable log and am confused now following the discussion.
i had a look at scp website and can't seem to find the exact standards. had a look at the MAC manual also-no joy either.
i'd be grateful for advice as i'm up against the wall at this point.

The new website for the Society is an absolute nightmare to navigate round so no wonder you couldn't find what you needed. The above link should bring up the standards of decontamination you should need for your practice and this includes advice regarding the autoclave.

I wish we could bury this HTM2010 thing forever. It is the number of a Health Technical Memoranda document. By all means google HTM2010 and bamboozle yourself completely all about autoclaves but much of the information is irrelevant to the humble podiatrist working in private practice. I am sure this document will have bee superceded by another HTM with a different number!

Trust your knowledge. You have already identified what you need. You don't need an autoclave that uses single use water. It is advisable to change the water regularly but not necessarily via a single use water system. You don't need printer or data logger. I do as it is easier.

Understanding HTM2010 and all about autoclaves

I am City and Guilds accredited in HTM2010 for both non vacuum type N autoclaves and vacuum type B autoclaves and in the certification of pressure vessel PSSR 2000:128 I can offer advice in whats required and which machines are reliable etc having serviced all sorts of units over the last 15 years.

Actually I need some help as I need to upgrade from my little old prestige 2100 'cooker' one.

I'm going to have to go down the second hand route as well...

unless by some miracle there is a way to shove a printer on the darn thing! lol igs:

autoclaves are old hat now disposable instruments are the future add 3.58 to you costs no cleaning no insurance no maintenance no time spent reprocessing no prriter paper etc no breakdowns or 200 quid call outs no insurance no compliance issues not as expensive as you might have thought

You do not need a printer.

The alternative is to watch the cycle and record the appropriate figures.

This is the second cycle of the day, the first being an empty warm up.

 

We are a use once and throw away society now, are we not ?

I cannot see the plus side of disposable instruments.

Infection control: All guidelines adhered to.

Autoclave to current standards. Including p.a.t annually & contracted for 2 annual services including pressure vessel tests by Dental Buying Group.

I will not be playing the disposable game.

Quite happy sterilising & reusing those which have been very satisfactory for years.

Maybe I was having a G.O.M.M , could not agree more with what you said Mandy.

I maybe do 3 gen tx a week. Ive got a nice melag autoclave and a few good sets of instruments which will last a few more years yet.

oh i hope not! when i used them all day a few times as a locum, my (only one pair of) hands were so sore afterwards. i dread to think of the damage from long term use. maybe an early end to the career i slogged to get into.

hiya, they do one for around 995+vat canonbury dlt mobilis all do it if that's not too expensive. who else would you use for a second hand one i only know of chiromart?
