I'd like to shadow a podiatrist in central London if possible.

I am very interested in podiatry as a career and would very much like to shadow a podiatrist for the day in central London (zones 1-3 would be ideal). I would be interested sitting in with both NHS podiatrists and private sector practioners. Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm currently in a similar position; I'm seeking work shadowing but so far no luck. So far I've had a wall put up in regards to insurance and health and safety. The universities say they need experience but its impossible to get a placement =/ The problem is that I can't travel or do any days other than Saturday as I'm still doing A-levels so this limits me even further.
I hope you are more lucky than me for getting the shadowing!

When i worked in NHS we regularly had school students looking at the health professions.

They would spend a week with the hospital looking at the different depts.

This was done mon - friday as clinics ran on those days. These were arranged with the schools and parental consent. Also a confidentially document was signed by the student as they would be exposed to confidential information.

In PP it would be the same but clinics usually run mon-friday too. maybe different arrangements regarding confidentiality.

Student placements are nothing new and policies and protocols are in place to facilitate this.

Thanks for this. So far Merton and Sutton PCT won't let me work in an NHS Clinic and two Private companies have let me down but I could always try the hospitals; you never know. The last place I tried said about signing a disclaimer but also said it was very unlikely of me getting a place.
Seems like no-one wants to really help me get into this profession; even my own school won't help.
    Thanks again for this =)

try contacting uni of east london, there students will be in clinics so they might let you shadow there. A number of potential students have been on viewing days up here

    With respect, this may be limiting your options;

I`ll happily accommodate any prospective/student who wants to observe my clinic. However, I don`t work Saturdays and I can`t bring my clinic to you!

PM me if you fancy a few days in Sunny Winchester.

    Cheers,
    Bel

Unfortunately my time is rather limited currently because of school. I'll just have to try my best to balance shadowing with school times.

And thanks for the offer. I will definitely bear it in mind. =)

I have actually visited UEL on a few hours shadowing only a few weeks ago. Unfortunately they can't offer me regular experience like they ask for but I did enjoy it when I went.
Thanks though for the suggestion =)

No worries, I know how hard it is. 3 of my 4 offspring have been through the same, the 4th about to embark on his ride of Further and Higher Education.

    Wish you well.
