Mass Customisation of Foot Orthoses

  2. Additive "3d printing" is definitely the future of foot orthosis manufacture. The problem with most current systems is cost and build time. Laser sintering is probably the quickest technique in terms of build time, but also probably the most expensive. I have a number of printed foot orthosis sitting on my desk, the quality is outstanding, but they took about 5 hours each to grow!:bash:

    Hi Simon

    I wonder if you possibly explain quite what "3d printing" and "laser sintering" are? It would help me better undersand the above article.

    It means that the product starts out as a powder and uses high powered lasers to build a 3d object .... in ths case, the foot orthotic.
