    Hi all

I have recently graduated and I have an interview for a band 5 post in the next few weeks. I have been told that it will be a case based scenario task and will be assessed by a panel of 3 interviewers. I really want this job, what advice can you give me on how to tackle the interview to the best of my abilities and also the type of questions that I may be asked.

    Cheers

I found this site really helpful when preparing for a recent (successful) interview. http://www.firsthealthjob.com

It seems that a lot of the time how you justify your answers is as important as the answer itself.

I would also read up on the trust/ policy/ governance issues as I had loads of questions on that kind of thing.

    Good luck

I would advise you to read up on the NHS Constitution and think about how it influences your values and behaviours as a healthcare practitioner. Be prepared to answer questions that demonstrate how you treat patients with care and compassion, and how you ensure their privacy and dignity is ensured.

If you are not asked directly about the Constitution, ensure you weave it in with your answers, let them know that it underpins your patient care.

    I hope this helps

    Hiya Sarah
You might be asked about conflict and dealing with the difficult patient. How would you cope with discharging patients who didn't require ongoing care. Social nail care is a big topic just now.
High risk patient. How would you treat them.

They will want you to justify your actions whatever the questions so don't be afriad to take a moment to digest the question and formulate an answer rather than just rattle out an answer.

Good luck. Where is your interview

    Hi Sarah,

Case based scenarios - make sure you know your treatment pathways and protocol of main conditions. All the main scenarios that we see in clinics are related to functional anatomy. IMO the foundation of what we do. So it can be related to all scenarios.

eg. band 5 management of diabetic ulcer - sterile environment, safe practice, assessment of vasc and neuro, risk category, wound assessment, offloading, sound debridement, follow up, diabetic footcare advice, general diabetic control, footwear advice. Complications? - onward referral to diabetic unit/Multi disciplinary clinic/specialist pod with close monitoring, MSK assessment, A&E, Orthotist.

Have confidence in your knowledge and think logically - easier said than done in interview conditions, I know.

    Good luck!

Our band 5s always get asked about clinical governance, and latterly AQP

Thank you all for your advice, I am currently making a document that details all the new NHS structure, CCGs, AQPs, Francis report etc. I don't want to get too bogged down in the detail though. x
