Orthotics Technology Forum 2012 - Salford University 12-13th July - call for papers

    | Call for Papers |

Our programme aims to have a mixture of academic papers, industry experts and case studies so we are inviting papers from speakers who are using different types of technology, from hardware devices to help measure biomechanical features, pressure and anatomical form to CADCAM tools for plasterless manufacture, as well as papers on new ideas for increasing productivity and reducing manufacturing costs.

Each successful application will be allocated 30 minutes including questions and answers. Cost of meals for invitees will be paid for by the conference, including the evening meal at Old Trafford. All other expenses, including hotel accommodations and transportation, are the participants’ responsibility.

    Anyone going to this years?

Really enjoyed both the lectures and the 'planking' in the evenings and the price looks reasonable.
Shame about it being at Old Trafford - would have preferred the Nou Camp!

Can't do this years because of family commitments, but look forward to seeing the pictures!

  7. Depends what topics the speakers are addressing. I don't need to watch another Delcam advert.

I noticed Craig T was talking again so might be worth going if they can put some 'meat on the bones' of the lectures.
Shame you can't make in Ian.

    Hi All,
I’m pleased to say that we have just confirmed the all new programme for this year’s technology forum. With the exception of Craig Tanner, who will be presenting the exciting things he is able to do with orthotic design using CAD one year on, the speakers are all different to last year so well worth a repeat visit for those who enjoyed last year’s event. It will again be CPD approved too.

Simon, I'm sorry that you felt it was a Delcam advert as we consciously tried to give an unbiased, balanced overview of what technology is out there now and coming in the future and asked all of our speakers to talk about their experiences of choosing digital, not choosing Delcam. If you have any suggestions on how we could improve the event or speakers you want to see though, we are always open to feedback.

Based on the positive feedback we got from last year’s delegates, we have kept the format the same and enlisted a similar variety of speakers and subjects and again made technology very much the focus.

We have in total 14 different speakers from around the world. You can view a complete list of this year's speakers and subjects by clicking here. I hope that we have again got the balance right between academic studies, case studies and product presentations (from various companies).

I hope to see you there.

    Hannah

P.S. Phil, I’m sorry about Old Trafford but it is an impressive venue, even if the team isn’t to everyone's liking! Maybe we’ll do Barcelona next year!!!

Shame. Love to come, but I`ll be travelling through clear Moroccan skies....All aboard the train

    Maybe next year.

  11. Having knowledge now of what the "meat" is I can say that I will not be attending. Craig's session is the only one that appears to be of interest to me personally.

  12. No need to apologise, Hannah. Out of interest how many of last years speakers use delcam products and how many didn't?

I could be up for this. Just have to persuade her indoors that

    1. This will not just be a chance for a bit of boozing and fun
    2. Digital scanner and software are a necessity for our business(they're not !)
    3. Going away for another couple of days having only come back of holidays 2 days previously is also a necessary evil
    4. Our 5 year anniversary should be sufficiently celebrated on our aforementioned holiday that not being at home for it is not a big deal

    Piece of cake

    Hi All
I am looking forward to it- I hope to see a few Pod Arena members there if only to put a few more faces to names...
Looking forward to the dinner- GBP80 seems pretty good value!
    Cheers

Sorry for the delay in responding to your question, I was in not so sunny Cornwall last week!

Less than half of last year's speakers were Delcam users and we chose them because they were good international case studies of companies that we knew had made the move to digital from traditional methods and asked them to talk about this experience, not the software features. We put out a call for papers so anyone is welcome to submit a paper to speak at the event as long as it is relevant to the programme.

We welcome any suggestions for future speakers/subjects. We can only improve the event with the feedback we got back from last year's event, which is what we have based this year's programme on.

    Thanks

    Hannah

    Hello,

I'm trying too use LastMaker to design a last for a Charcot foot and, probably because of the lack of my experience I don't have the expected results.
As the Orthotic Technology Forum cover the Orthopaedic Footwear Design aspects, could you give me some assistance in this particular case ?
Some other similar experience I'm sure will help me a lot .
Unfortunately for me, I can't attend to this event so maybe we can find other solution !

    Thank you in advance !
    Respectfully,
    Daniel
