Podiatry Practice - internet servers

    Hi all,

    I am currently looking at expanding my practice and I am looking into setting up/licencing a server for the clinic.

    I was hoping to get some insight from those more experienced with larger clinics/ or those who have a server, the pros and cons etc.

    I am in the process of climbing a steep IT learning curve :wacko:

    Hi Melb Pod,

    It is not as 'terrifying as you think" most IT contract/service providers should be able to set you up and provide you a server that allows remote access via a aptop/desktop for purposes of accessing and entering data from any of your clinics. I would probably recommen the program front desk for purposes of practice managment unless you were liekly to introduce Retail as it is not as suited to these purposes.

    Bottom line find a good local IT provider/friend in your area and they should sort it all out for you easily enough :)

    As with anything I think its about doing enough research to feel comfortable and confident with a new idea - computers especially :wacko:

    You're welcome to drop in at my clinic any time if you want to see our setup and decide whether it's right for you. I'm running Front Desk and think it's absolutely brilliant (and I don't even use all the functions it's capable of). I'd be happy to show you how it all works.

    Thanks Nat - would love to come and see your setup.
    I to currently use FrontDesk, however this is a one computer setup, and I suppose my main question is this post is around setting up a server to allow remote access as well as multiple computers at various clinics - not sure if you use it in this way - but still will give you a bell regarding that coffee :drinks

    Hi MelbPod,
    I am going through the same process.
    My recommendation would be to call Front Desk and explain to them what you are wanting to do. I called them and they explained the best way to approach it for my situation. Which really did clear things up for me as what I envisaged was much harder than what is actually required.
    The next step was to find a good IT company who can set up the actual hard wiring/network.
