Shortened extensor tendons

    Hi,
    Help, suggestions, comments sought.
50 year old female presenting with chronic back/right hip pain. Has been to chiropractor for 6 months, who hasn't helped, but who has advised to see the podiatrist for orthotics.
No LLD, no lesions on foot. Right foot all digits are retracted (clawed). From history patient states that she 'severed foot fairly deeply' as a 14 year old, and could not walk for several weeks, then with a limp, then better. This lady now walks well, with only a slight shoulder drop. Note: she habitually walks bare-foot.
I have decided that the extensor tendons and tibalis anterior have been shortened following this injury. My first reaction is to cast for orthotics, but what am I trying to do? Should a PMP be inserted to re-allign and help with extension.? Are there exercises that should be considered? Please let me know. Sorry if there isn't a lot of information, I will try to answer questions.
    Thanks folks...

    Hi Gillian,

    A few questions:

    Any nerve damage suspected?
How do you think your observations at foot level are contributing to this ladies complaint (her right sided back/hip pain)?
How do you think orthoses will improve her symptoms?
