Hey Guys, I have been browsing the web trying to find discussion forums on Chiro / Oesteo/ Acupuncure and Physio etc , and have to say Our Pod arena is the most open Honest and informative site I could find. Well done on not hiding anything chaps ! Pip Pip!

I was looking for evidence on the "Professions" that we are lumped in with. In NZ Under ACC Podiatrists are in the same fund claiming pool as Physios OesteosChiros Acupuncturists I have always been a little jealous of our treatment under the old system of "Endorsed Provider Network" where Physios where only allowed to enter into (Which ACC has now dissolved due to OVER and dare I say "Debatable" SERVICING by physios....21 Treatments for a Sprained ankle? etc...) Anyhoo dont want to create too many enemies.

But I can say Podiatry seems the most open Honest "Evidence based" Allied health profession and needs to be moved closer to Medicine and Nursing to increase our market share and away from the more dare I say it "Placebo" based professions..........Can of worms now Open for reply.......wince.........anyone fire back at me im ready.

 

Yep the more you study something the more you question it !

 

With our extensive scope of practice and unique position, I often feel more pressure to represent my profession well; perhaps this is part of it. Of the non-doctors, who else can independently perform surgery, inject etc; we have access to unprecedented restricted acts in many countries however we are not technically "doctors" as we didn't go to "medical school". Even in the US with title and DPM surgical residency, pods are not completely accepted as equivalent. Dentists are better recognized, less scrutiny, our closest non-medical school similars. One med school student said I was training to be a "little doctor" whilst in school. We are under more scrutiny. Perhaps it makes us more comfortable with critical self evaluation.
