For those with their own websites, who did you use for the design/building, have you been happy, has it been effective & what advice would you give novices?

i have always done my own websites, but as some advice to a novice one of the biggest issues i have found working in this market is that not many people physically search the market looking for a company working in this market, more people are searching for home remidys and asking the questions how can orthotics help.

so to sum up what i mean... advertising and selling via a website is very hard and generally not profitable in this area of medical care, all that can be offered would be an "educational" type of website

I also have always designed my own. However I have gone from creating everything from scratch to using open-source content management systems like Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress depending on the need.

To set a site up with one of these is normally only a couple clicks if you have a good web host provider and you can easily change the look by using different templates that are available.

Wordpress is the easiest to use but not really suitable for a business as it is more of a blog but I'd check out Joomla.

    Cheers

Thanks guys. I have a website but it really needs a lot of updating so just seeing what others have done. I don't really want to sell anything through the website. I am not very literate on how Google positions your site but I was told there are certian words in a page that Google looks at & then ranks your site/page from there. I knwo I can find this out elsewhere but is that information correct? Are there any other secrets to how Google ranks a site?

this is true, for example if you are wanting to promote "markleigh" on the website there will be a need to have "markleigh" in the title and headings of the page, also to mention "markleigh" in the wording of the website, google classes this as a key word and will look at how oftern this is used throughout that page, if the usage is between 5-7% this is good, any more than this and the word will be treated as spam.

From there you need to get other websites to link to your website (as this shows google that your website has interesting content).

then finally google looks at how many websites have "markleigh" as a key word and puts them in a list. The website that goes to the top is one that has the most links back to the website.

that is the simplist way to explain google's methods

    hope this helps :)

That's great Phil. Thanks a lot. I looked at Joomla & looks pretty detailed. I did my initial website myself but ideally would like to just get a modern looking template & add my detail from there.

Officite specializes in medical websites. My website definitely needs a redo and I'm considering using them.

Here's an example of their work. (not my website )http://www.footworkschiropodyclinic.ca/

I've written my own website (direct programming) and I have a WYSIWYG based website (that someone else created).

My advice would be to save your sanity (!) and find someone who can create a WYSIWYG website so, after you've agreed the look and graphics of your website all you need to do is add the content ... which you can update, as and when. I think the cost of such a site is about £500? Believe me, it's well worth the money!

Thanks again for your input's. Are there good places to source quality foot/health images that can be used in a website.

There are many ways to create and support your professional web site. Say, you can use a builder to create a simple (worthless?) web site with 5 pages and simple interface, but it's more than enough to present you on the internet and provide your profile, specialization, contact information, a few images, etc. You can pay $4-8 per month to keep this and a few more web sites almost 24/7. You need to buy a domain name, which is about $10 per year, but the most complicated thing is to find a free name that you can use for your web site. If the name is too long it will never be found. On the other hand, all short names are already occupied. So searching for a name is a very time consuming process. The name should be easy to understand and recall when required, that's the main difficulty of creating/searching for the right domain. The web site can be more complicated with periodical updates, with blog, with forum, etc. if you don't care and don't want to work hard with your web site you can use somebody else web spaces to create your practice forum, which is not so bad if you want your patient to bring you more new patients as well as to provide your patients some space to publish their testimonials, questions, etc. I'm currently supporting this web site with free forum for practices. Finally to make your web site more popular, and that's the main purpose, you need to think about traffic to your site, about presenting it on different forums, searching engines, etc. That's a serious very time consuming work, trust me! :) If you have any questions - throw me a personal message.

Hi, wordpress is no longer just a blog. It can be adapted into a full cms system. I own a web development company who work with many local businesses to create affordable websites (we custom design and build them to look professional and match the companies branding, style/look etc). We use Wordpress as a platform and offer the clients a full cms website with editable areas so they can edit the content, add pages, remove them, and a blog/news section is an add on. Infact the blog technology and the backend of Wordpress is very powerful. The bonus is, whatever we do with it, it's still very easy for the client to use.

If you are looking for a cheaper option there are many Wordpress templates available which you can install. Some of the more complex templates need more technical/web knowledge though. To achieve a professional looking website really you need a professional working on it. As I say to clients, we'll do what we are good at and you concentrate on making your business a great success, which in return will make you several times what the website costs.

  12. Copyright might be an issue - I used photos that I took myself.

I have a shuttestock account, you pay a fee and can download a certain number of photos from their stock, you can use those photos how you wish, web site, leaflet, letter etc. They also give away free images to download, these are not always relevant though. They have all kinds of chiropody, podiatry, physio pictures. Works for me, and looks professional toohttp://www.shutterstock.com

    I totally agree!

With regards to images. If you want to use any image or graphics on your website as part of your practice logo, you'll need to 'own' the image; it's usually a good idea to read the small print of all the image websites before you buy.

  17. We have a custom written site sitting on top of Umbraco CMS.

I am a podiatrist practicing in midtown Manhattan NYC.

Over the past 16 months I have been doing my own Internet marketing. I taught myself how to code websites using HTML and CSS.

I am currently getting 30-40 new patients per week for my group from online marketing. I'm also getting 5-6 patients per week for laser toenail fungus treatments.

See for yourself. My sites are cityfootcare.com, bestpodiatristnyc.com, and lasertoenailfungustreatmentnyc.com
    Google the following:

    Bunion surgery NYC
    Best podiatrist NYC
    Laser nail fungus NYC
    And many more.

This worked so well that I have started an intent marketing company for doctors and other professionals. I Currently have around ten clients. I can demonstrate how well this works for them too.

If you're interested in marketing with me, see bestmarketingnyc.com.

Prices are fair. No contract or commitment. Satisfaction guarantee.

Feel free to email me, Dr. Silverberg cityfootcare@gmail.com
