I am a podiatrist. Dec 12th 2013 i had a second toe weils osteotomy with cheilectomy and EDL 2 plasty. A synova was removed during surgery. I have hallux abductovalgus which doesnt warrant surgery and a mortons 2nd toe. Post healing good with some localised swelling 10 weeks on. The area is sore rather than painful when walking. How long should I expect the area to be sore, what exercise should I be doing if any and what is the medium term and long term prognosis. I was a walker. I have started to use acupuncture to reduce swelling and use a silicon pad to reduce pressure from footwear and assist scar tissue. Thanks

    Hello Angela

I really think that you should approach the surgeon who carried out the procedure for the answer to your question. It does seem rather odd that you should be questioning the fact that the area is sore when you appear to have evidence that you have a neuroma 2/3. As far as I am aware, there is no evidence that acupuncture is effective in a case of post-op. inflammation, nor that a silicone pad will 'assist scar tissue'. I am sure that your surgeon will be able to help.

    Kind regards

Thanks Bill for your comments. I dont seem to have given you enough information. I did not have a neuroma. The synova was at the distal end of the 2nd met. I used kerrapro as part of a study for crawford health. Apologies for advertising. I have been trained to use acupuncture which reduced the inflammation very succesfully in earlier stages of the condition so feel this would be helpful. The surgery was considered appropriate because the capsule had deteriorated. If the terminology isnt correct i apologise. My question was really what to expect. I could not see my own orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon on my post op appt so couldnt ask. So advice re what i should be expecting, how healing should be progressing and which exercises would strengthen the EDL would be most appreciated. Thanks Angela
