We've been given our reading list for this year and wondered if anyone, ideally in the UK, had copies of these books that they were not using on a frequent basis that I may either a) borrow or b) purchase from them.

I have managed to locate all the books for Semester 1 (except the Pocket Podiatry) at the University Library and of those, I have managed to grab long term loans (Return at end of term) of all except the Merriman's Assessment (7 day loan but will constantly renew it until Long Term version turns up).

Without further ado, here's the reading list:

    Semester 1
    • Neale's disorders of the foot 7th ed.
      • ISBN-10: 0433074151
    • Merriman's Assessment of the lower limb 3rd ed.
      • ISBN-10: 0800451071
    • Clinical Skills in treating the foot 2nd ed.
      • ISBN-10: 0443071136
    • Podiatry: A Case Based Psycology
      • ISBN-10: 0470519630
    • Pocket Podiatry: Functional Anatomy
      • ISBN-10: 0702030325
    • A Guide to Research for Podiatrists
      • ISBN-10: 190553941X
    • Anatomy And Physiology 7th ed.
      • ISBN-10: 0071116532
    • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology 11th ed.
      • ISBN-10: 0471718718 / 0471689343
The last two books I just need one of them. It has been suggested that we try to borrow copies of both and see which one is our preference.

    Semester 2
    • Human Movement: An introductory text 5th ed.
      • ISBN-10: 0443074461
    • Clinical Gait Analysis: Theory and Practice
      • ISBN-10: 0443100098
    • Gait Analysis Normal and Pathalogical Function
      • ISBN-10: 1556421923
If there is anyone who can help I would be incredibly grateful.

    Thanks in advance,
    Icebox Man

Greetings from Australia! We used just about the same books, and you will want to keep Merrimans assessement of the lower limb. It has everything in it. Buy it if you can. Carole

You definitely need to buy the first three plus anatomy. FYI, these are very recent new editions so if you get the older ones used, chapters might be slightly different. Plus the new assessment of the lower limb has an AMAZING CD rom this time around. I'd sell and mail you out my old ones at your expense ;) as I've just updated my editions, but it'd be better to get the newer ones.

If you need more reasons to suck it up and shell out, here are a few. You will use them for the rest of your career. You're in a professional program; these books will be added to your practice library when you graduate, so save your receipts for later (taxes). They will also be excellent resources for your evidence based/case study courses and exams later on. Remember the program is CUMULATIVE, each course/year builds on the previous, and it all ends in a composite exam and licencing exam for entry to practice. You can't just dump your books/notes/memory after the final.

The only way to wrench them from the hands of upper years is if they've flunked/dropped out.

You might be able to get away with reading the rest (except anatomy but especially research) in the library, and you can pick some up along the way if you find you like it or are heavily using it. Where's VALMASSY'S Biomech??? That's also a staple. You'd have to pry that one out of my cold dead hands....

Thanks very much for the feedback on the reading list. After seeing (and carrying) the whole lot from the uni library to the car, I think I'll pass on your kind offer of posting me your books from Toronto. Thank you very much though.

As to Valmassy's Biomech. If we end up using it they might throw it at us (hopefully only metaphorically) in the second year.

I'll keep hijacking the uni copies until I'm in a better position to buy them. We were advised to just borrow Neale's as there is an 8th edition next year.

Hi, I am recent grad from northampton.

YOU do not need to buy all those books, it seems scary to begin with, for the whole 3 years I brought only 3 books.

1)Grays Antomy, there are others out there, all down to personal preference.

    2)Assessment of the lower limb

3)and my bible - clinical sports medicine by khan and brukner

also a BNF - you can get a old one for free from you GP if you ask nicely.

all other books I used from the library like,

    Kumar and clarke clincal medicine

Rang and Dale - pharmacology (I personally didnt like pharmacology for pods)

Are just to name a few.

The thing I can not stress enough is get a athens password from you Uni Library as that will give you access to journels as after your first year referencing from books is not advised.

Also USE you lectures knowledge they are there to help!!

One final hint, work in groups for revision, bounce ideas of each other use each others strenghts. It really helped me in my finals to get my 2:1 (only if I studied in group in my 2nd year I would have got my 1st)

feel free to ask any questions

    Nick
