Looking to purchase CAD CAM unit - Advice pls

Happy New Year All. I would like to purchase a CADCAM / CNC setup to mill my own orthotics. I almost always use polypropylene shells and have zero intention in moving to an EVA style mill. I can use a computer for more than a paper weight but am not accomplished in programming (at all) so I would need a software package that is set up to allow manipulation of cast / foot scans. Used to make my orthotics by hand in the 80's and 90's so know enough to do the 'podiatry' stuff, and am willing to do some learning about the package but want to pull up short of doing an engineering degree. Volume might be 200 pairs / month. I am in Australia. Input greatly appreciated. Cheers

Moose - you really have no option for milling poly in the clinic. Poly is tough on the equipment, so you need a decent sized and durable CNC mill .... which at the moment are only suitable for lab use.

EVA systems from either Amfit or Orthema are the only real options available in Australia. I know Amfit are working on a poly option, but last I heard they were not too enthusiastic about it.

 

Thanks Craig, but I have me a big-ass shed outback. (and a half-assed technician in house boom-boom) Have looked at Amfit and am afraid that I would place it as 'less favourable' than my current lab. Seriously though, I am also interested in the evolution of the CADCAM CNC inhouse orthotic.

 

Respectfully...I don't believe that characterisation is entirely correct.
For the record, our direct CNC milled polypro option is commencing beta testing this month. Some members of this forum are among those participating in that beta test. The product offering at present is a centrally fabricated product (at Amfit USA), not something that could be fabbed on-site. We are open to the latter option, but have not yet green lighted it.

 

Sorry Arjen ... I heard ~6 months ago (not sure from who) that there were some technical issues and it was being put on the 'back burner'. Good to hear its working out.

 

Hi Berms. what part of aus are you in? Would happily tell you how to make so many orthotics. but not if you are in the next suburb.....

There is a Lab inthe North of Sydney tah I believe use a Milling system for Poly shells. The lab is called Virtual Orthotics. A friend of mine has used them. Depending on where you live in Aus they may be able to help you.
