hello, im new to the forum and new to foot health i have just qualified as a foot health practitioner i wished id done it years ago.im setting up mobile in my local area has anyone any advice on any element they think might be useful. thank you

oh my word not too sure i am doing this right, not an easy site to navigate so here goes.

i am so pleased you are excited about your new profession. i am looking in to doing a fhp course and setting a mobile practice. could you tell me which institute you decided to go to. i have looked at the main 3 advertised, but got a little bogged down with deciding which one to go to. pros and cons to each.

also after reading a previous forum where the main advice was to do the degree i then started to doubt my decision. i am not that keen on doing a full time degree at the age of 41 and 3 young children and a husband who works away. i know there will be limitations to the fhp course, but i felt in my self it was a good start to offer foot care. any advice welcome. owensianrhys

 

hello, i dont know if you will get this message im not too good with computers. i chose Stonebridge in bude and although it was a long way to travel for my practical it was worth it i got so much out of the course in general and the practical was inspiring it really confirmed that this is what i want to do with my life. i too struggled with doing the degree or not and with a husband and baby thats just one i chose to be a fhp and build my own practice.Im 38 andi think that once ive created a practice that im comfortable in if i decide to go for the degree then i can, its never too late.I also think there is a demand for fhp's we are the general care and attention element in the sector its always good to refer if its something we cannot deal with.i think if you ove feet and are interested in the field and care about people you will always do well.x x

just out of interest, why the course in stonbridge, rather than the smaeinstitute or collegefph.???????

 

hi the reason i chose Stonebridge was the course was easy to understand made sense straight away the modules were concise and you took them at your own pace of learning, after having my son bear you like to know your brain still works! x x:dizzy:

You're doing a lot of advertising on behalf of a private trainer - I wonder if you are in fact a real person or a "plant"?

Interesting perception of a FHP role in the market, I assume instilled by your private trainer who may have been less than honest with you.

Are you suggesting that fully trained and registered pods do not provide "care and attention"?

I hate to tell you this but loving feet does not neccessarily mean that you will be successful.Having the skills and the underpinning knowedge is a major part of your ability to build a practise, very little of which is provided by the private trainers who are in the business for money.

don't be so silly i was just expressing the fact that i enjoyed my course. i can't comment on other courses because i havent done them.

 

i think jumping on to a simple statement and bending it how you please is quite poor. As a matter of fact my personal goal is to achieve the degree one day when my own personal circumstances allow. I belive that its important to continue my learning and knowledge even though ive graduated and its nothing to do with my trainer who personally i thought was an arse,but had the good grace to give him the respect he deserved as he had a degree and 25 years expirience in practice.I don't think that degree pods don't give care and attention to their patients as you infered.it is something that will be an important part of my practice,and if this is the sort of replies you get for simply trying to encourage someone else then im happy to say this site aint for me.

 

This site is for you Kerrybear, its just unfortunate that some people who are not happy about Fhp's feel the need to jump on your conversation with somebody who is clearly interested in the route you have taken and only asking for an opinion (which everybody is allowed to have!). There are some really interesting chats that go on between Pods and Fhp's and they are very happy to share experience and knowledge which is why this site is so great, but then you get some who....well lets just say arent worth getting into debates with as they'd sooner shoot you down!!! (I'm expecting after typing this a reply!!) All I am trying to say is, there are some great people on here who are willing to share and advise, so you keep using this site as it is full of info you'll need and dont let the odd ones get to you. I wish you luck with your new career.

 

thanks holly its nice to know. i try and be a positive person rather than a negative and i do belive the first step is to care.i know some people are not happy about fhp'sbut i would still have a caring attitude even if i were a pod.

Given time you will find out the shortcomings of your training- I am sure Mr Pinks ears must be burning now he knows how you really feel about him!

Your aspiration to do the degree is admirable and I hope that comes to fruition-you will then see what the real profession is all about.

you seem to have more tollerance for me when you think im connected with a degree than with a simple fhp and that sir says more about you than me.if what i have been taught is insufficent then i assume my law i would not be allowed to practice.your attitude is neither incouraging or attractive to any fhp who may wish to take the degree.all you do is anger me and i find you condecending maybe you should realise that fhp are here and rather than slating us you could pass on your knowledge and insight. i understand there are good and bad in both camps i can learn nothing from someone like you who obviously feels the need to berrate everyone. please dont send a reply as i dont want to leave this site but i dont feel i have gained anything from talking to you other than annoyance and with your expirience thats just sad.
