    Hi,

I am revising ankle injuries in sports and there is a bit of an overlap between lateral ankle sprain and peroneal tendinopathy.Does anyone know how to differentiate between the two in terms of the clinical symptoms and other tests. Also any management strategies?

    Thank you in advance

LA Spain- acute, levels grade 1,2,3 depeding on the severity. Treatment- manage swelling, rehabilitation for flexibilty, strength and proprioception.
Peroneal tendinopathy- chronic. Control cause of tissue overload (strenghten, change mechanics(footwear, strapping, orthoses))
    Broad question- broad answer.

I would suggest studying a good textbook on the clinical question as to how to differentiate between inversion ankle sprain and a peroneal tendinopathy. Pereoneal tendinopathy may also arise from inversion ankle sprains and this will also be covered in a good textbook on such injuries. I would suggest McGlamry's Comprehensive Textbook of Foot Surgery as a starter.

    Hope this helps.:drinks
