    Hi there all,

I am interested to know who here are FHPs as there dont appear to be many making contributions to the site in the forums. If you would prefer to email or message me directly then that is fine...i will tell you more about why I have asked in due course...

    thanks !

  2. Yep, I'm a foot health practitioner. I'm also a chiropodist/ podiatrist. Why do you ask?

Thought you were a Pod, having trained back in the 1980s? or did i hear that wrong Simon?

  4. I'm a foot health practitioner too. As a podiatrist, I'm a practitioner of foot heath. Why do you ask?

  5. footsiegirl

    thanks for that Simon...

Just to reiterate to all you FHPs (not fhps) that you can send me a personal message or email if you do not wish to post here ...

  7. Third time: why do you ask?

  8. footsiegirl

    footsiegirl Active Member

Simon, the post is directed purely at FHPs - you know that

In addition, if you read my first post it actually says that those interested will know why i have asked "in due course".

  9. All yours... it's clearly a "secret"

  10. footsiegirl

    footsiegirl Active Member

perhaps you are trying out the rules of debate? lol

  11. Perhaps, you've mistaken me for someone who cares and for someone who has signed up to rules?

  12. footsiegirl

    footsiegirl Active Member

No- I never did that. :pigs:Thanks Simon for your contribution to this thread- you must feel very good about yourself now.

  13. No, I'm just interested in why you only want to disclose your information to FHP's? What's the big secret? Personally, I think there is already too much segregation in our profession. Like I said a post or two ago... "all yours"

  14. footsiegirl

    why would you care Simon?

because its only of concern to FHPs
because there is obvious intimidation and bullying on the Arena that I feel it better to contact FHPs privately rather than subject them to more of the same

    any way...moving on

  15. If there is "obvious intimidation and bullying" here why do you wish to let the perceived bullies win by removing FHP's from Arena discussions? I don't know you, but I've read your posting. You can hold your own, so why do you think your colleagues can't?

  16. footsiegirl

    footsiegirl Active Member

Call me a pedant if you like, but I didnt say i wanted to remove FHPs from Arena discussions...merely this one if individuals wish to contribute to my particular thread privately...

  17. You're being pedantic. Why this one?

  18. footsiegirl

    footsiegirl Active Member

is this Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah? lol

any way thanks for the compliment...

why this one?...seeing as you have asked so nicely, this particular one because I knew a Pod would pick up the 'thread', work on it a while, and then proceed to make 'holes' in the finished 'article'

  19. Now you're sounding like the one trying to create an "us and them" and a professional dichotomy.

I don't know, but you strike me as a bright individual. So I'm sure you'll make your own mind up regarding the difference between the doves and hawks here.

I hope you find the responses you were looking for.

    Time for bed.

Indeed i will, Simon. Thanks for the banter...

PS: not bright, just lived a bit...

    Hi FG,

I havent done the `Foot Health Practitioner/Professional`correspondance course but I did start out as an `unregulated practitioner`pre the augumentation of the Health professions Order, so could be regarded as an FHP and am intrigued by your (ambiguous) post. Why the secrecy? C`mon....

The Arena, at least from my perspective, does not seek to intimidate or bully anyone. Individuals may express opinions and others may disagree, differ or concur. That`s debate and how I, and my practice, have benefited from this invaluable resource.

    Cheers,
    Bel

Thanks for your considered post. I take on board what you have said and appreciate that this Arena does not "seek" to intimidate or bully. I, myself, have exchanged some useful information with some Pods on here. However, there is a distinct lack of FHP input - something that was highlighted to me in a personal message from someone here, and I would like to know why...it may actually be the case that there are only a few FHPs on here, for instance...

Anyway Simon...your cocoa is now in the dog.

Will the last person to leave, please turn out the light!

  26. I'm not really a cocoa kind of guy. I like to finish the night with a single malt (the Macallan, 18 year old this evening- ooh err), but that's just got me up again..........

    Pssst. don't tell anyone, it's a secret.

The `dog` is a euphemism for the microwave in my house...

`Footsie-gal`, I like your postings, they reveal a certain `ballsiness`. I actually agree, there is distinct lack of postings from FHPs here and I would, for one, welcome more.

The end of a beautiful relationship...

  28. Sh*t...:bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash:

If only I'd not been so open and honest?

P.S. I know it's Friday and I'm not at work tomorrow, but why am I not in bed catching ZZZZZZZZZZZZ's? I hATE SINGLE MALT.

P.S. THE DOG = NEWCASTLE BROWN ALE

Ah, The ol` nuclear brown...lovely. Esp with marmite cheesey toast. Not an effective hairy dog tho...

is that slang for the euphemism, hair of the dog?! lol

if its a hairy dog you are after then he answers to Peanut...however,

if its a hair of the dog, then perhaps a Glenmorangie? :drinks

Thanks for your input Blinda, Simon - it is very much appreciated...

hi there, i have just read your thread.
i am interested in doing the fhp diploma course in blackheath college midlands.
i do still have some reservations. is there work out there, or do the general public actively look for a registered chiropodist. the college did explain the difference and limitations, but in the real world what do you guys find. is it just about marketing yourself and explaining to clients what you can and cannot offer them.
my background is nursing so i love working with people, and want a career within a healthcare environment. any input would be appreciated.
    cheers

    Owen,
I would always advise anyone interested in footcare to do the Podiatry(Chiropody) degree course. If you are nurse-trained you should be able to cope with ti academically. A degree course will open so many more doors for you and allow you to specialise as well as giving the option of public or private-sector work.

There are plenty of thread on this forum that will give you all the information you need about these type of courses and I'm sure Admin will be able to post the links for you. here's one to be going on with

    Hi there

It very much depends on what you want from your job...in hindsight, I would have done the degree course, because for me, the work is rather limiting. However, I know other FHPs who love their work. Have you done your nurse training or worked as at NVQ level? I know NVQ level 3 can sometimes be accepted in terms of academic ability for the degree, Registered nurse qualification is also accepted (?) but i guess it depends how recent your last training was.

As far as gaining work as an FHP, yes there is work out there. However, at Blackheath athough there was some tuition in 'getting started' from a self employed point of view, I found it left me with gaps regarding legalities concerning clinical waste management, data protection act and so on. Having a nursing background is certainly a help, but the self employed market is completely different and if you did consider self employment at all, then you should start swotting up on the subject before you commence any training.

    Hello :)
I just joined the site last week - having received my diploma as a FHP this year from Stonebridge.
I plan on starting my business at the end of September so am finding the information on this arena extremely valuable. (* would love to have started sooner however am tied into a contract with my current employer until Sept 20th*.)

    thanks
i am a registered general nurse and have a diploma in peadiatrics. i have considered the degree course but it is full time and i have 3 young chidren and a husband who works none stop, just thought it would ip me over the edge a litle :). i did find a part time degree course but that was 4 1/2 years.......so again had 2nd thoughts.
the diploma course in midlands is a year. it seemed to be quite thorough and had 2 weeks patient care. did you find the stonbridge course to have enough hands on. coming from a nursing back ground the patient care will be fine, just need the hands on care.

my main concerns are when i am when working with the general public will they understand and accept the different roles each profession has to offer.

    Hiya.
I’m not so sure i can answer that just yet - let me come back to you at the end of September when I’ve been working for a week!
I will say - that the training was very thorough and the pod in charge of my group ( 7 including me) was extremely patient and knowledgeable.
They have a great set up at Stonebridge - with 7 patient days during the two weeks i was there.
I too would love to take the degree option - but again at the moment it’s just not a viable option.
I finished at the end of April and haven’t put the books down since - i have probably learnt much more since i finished the course than i did when i was studying.
My only recommendation with the course should they ever make changes, would be to have a 2 weeks clinic mid way through the studies and then again on completion of the final assignment - i felt quite overwhelmed during the theory sections and would have liked some hands on during this part.
I dont have a medical background and would assume somebody who does, would grasp the theory quicker.
    (*im an accountant by trade!*)
