    Hi,
Would like some clarification regarding what to do if I have a patient who requires a cortisone injection. I practice in the nohtern and western suburbs of Melbourne. Are there podiatric surgeons who are able to perform this. Or do podiatrists mainly try to go through their GP's.

    Thanks

  2. WhenI was working in Melbourne - Sports medicine Dr would injects using Ultrasound was where I sent my patients.

5-6 years ago there was quite a few I´m sure there are many more now. Maybe hit up the the big Sports medicine practices in your area and ask who uses ultrasound guided Cortisone injection techniques.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for that. Have been out of the system for a couple of years but now have booked this patient in for a US guided cortisone injection.
    Thanks

You will also find some GP's in Melbourne (if you have good repore with them) can supply you with the cortisone if you can and are willing to inject youself. Sometimes this may suit patient better.

Can't go wrong with US guidance though....

    Stupid question...

do you have to have a qualification to do US cortisone injection?

as I said - stupid question, but a need to know one...

  6. Qualified - with ultrasound image usage - no

and no to give a Cortisone injection , but to get it you have to have prescription rites which comes with a licence and qualification, so kind of.

you way want to think about insurance coverage.

Ie if you don´t have the rites to prescribe cortisone and something goes wrong etc.

    Hope that helps.
