    Interesting.
With the new stack and tilt methods where more weight is kept on the leading foot at the top, I think it would have been more difficult for this golfer if his left was shorter.

I've played some courses especially in Cornwall with sloping fairways that would make an LLD a positive advantage !!!!!!!:D

Seriously , Many of the Golf pro's I have Tx'd with custom orthotics have reported a distinct improvement in their balance at address and throughout the swing feeling much more stable.

I'm still working on getting them interested in correct foot function and the long term benefits of that as opposed to the latest gizzmo that will give them a longer straighter drive,or a better putting stroke :craig:.

Not sure I will ever win that one.
    Cheers

Stack and tilt is also based on knee flexion I believe which will also have a bearing on weight distribution and functional LLD throughout the golf swing.

The longer left leg would give a shallower angle of attack at the ball which knee flexion would to some degree compensate for to reduce the tendency to hook the ball.
    Cheers

Last article I read on stack and tilt suggested that only about 40-50 tour pros were using it (which is quite a small percentage obviously). Looking at video footage of the top 10 golfers in the world it doesn't appear that many of them use it at all; most opting for the more traditional weight/hip shift forwards during the downswing. Not sure of the amateur stats obviously. Do you stack and tilt Steve?

"Do you stack and tilt Steve?"

Well, it's not easy to change a swing that you are use to and have been using for years. As you know, what you "think" you are doing in your own mind and what you see on video are often quite different.

I have, to some extent, succeeded (if you can call it that) to retain more weight on my front foot during the backswing. My shaft angle at contact looks a bit better (I think!) because of this.

Anything that helps the shaft angle!!!!!!!! haha

As a side note: my handicap has not changed!!!!!

drsarbes - have you lost or gained distance with this swing or is it about the same?

I must admit I like the traditional swings better...

Oh and to get on to get back on topic - I have seen a fair fewgolfers with functional LLDs as well. Not always the best posture to stand in for hours every day. I think the spine angle has a lot to do with it and perhaps a lack of conditioning/management of tight muscles.

Thanks for posting this up Mike. I first read this article several months back when I was writing a piece on Golf and Podiatry for my blog. It's one of my favourite papers on the golf swing.

I reckon my avatar from World Golf tour has an LLD and that is why I am still a bit mince.

Sounds good mate - what time? If we do it late enough we might get Sam involved while he eats his breakfast too.

That was brilliant - I loved that. In fairness to the old guys, I would probably have done that to the buggy. Don't think I would be swinging a golf club at someone though.

Robin - I'd say about midnight tommorow (Saturday?) I'll drop Sam a message on Facebook to see if he fancies it. If not we can do earlier maybe.

Del - I'm looking forward to the spring when you come out of your golf hibernation and we can get out there mate.
