hi all,
just wanted to say hello,

I have a place at salford in september as a 'very' mature student.
do feel slightly nervous about it all. bit mad at 41 to start training again. but have worked for myself (in retail) for the last 7 years and need a challenge.

wish me luck...

I qualified from Salford last year, a fantastic uni with excellent tutors and students alike and trust me at 41 you'll be far from the eldest! So good luck chuck and enjoy the 'studenty' thing while it lasts cos believe me it flies by!
(Hint - try and buff up alittle on lower limb anatomy before you start cos you'll be covering in year one and quite a bit to memorise)

oh yeah and stay away from the cheese on toast in the cafeteria, its highly addictive and you'll be two stone heavier when you graduate (speaking from experience)

any suggestions on which books would be ideal to get. i haven't got a reading list yet.

You are unlikely to be the oldest on the course . When I started at Huddersfield (1995) I believe the oldest student (Pod') was early 50s.

Good luck to you. i too am a mature student starting in Sept @ Birmingham Met and am extremely nervous. I'm sure we'll be fine though.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can go about securing and observational placement - not having very much luck with any podiatrists willing.

hi hendy5, i start my second year at salford in september, everyone has their own preference to anatomy books but i found mcminns anatomy of the lower limb the most helpful, good luck for september

Hi Hendy, welcome to PA. I've just graduated from Salford this summer and like the others have already said, it is unlikely you will be the eldest. The majority of my year was made up of a lot of mature students so you wont feel out of place...and it's suprising how well everyone gets on. Good luck!
