    Hey guys and gals.
Just signed up to this forum as a uni friend said it was helpful.
Well, I'm Danny, I'm 22 and at Huddersfield university.
Just going into my second year. Quite nervous but going to embrace the chance to try do well.
Not sure which route I'm going to follow in my career yet, as I've not had chance to do much MSK.
Just wondering, is anyone else in university on here, or more specifically second year?

Well not to be cheeky but you've earned the title 'Podiatry Arena Veteran'!!

    Happy birthday to you then!

Well at first I wasn't sure for me but I had a patient come in with a walking stick and walk out without one and she hasn't needed it since. So since then it's driven me to try and achieve and help as many people as possible.

Have you worked in the UK or with anyone from the UK and noticed any significant changes in the practice?

I am really wanting to emigrate to a nice climate and Australlia seems the perfect opportunity

Many emigates from UK out here..... Melbourne 31 degrees on Thursday 13 degrees on Saturday?? It is a very varied climate... but I do love the variety.

    Enjoy

    Cheers

    Hiya Danny & Christine,

I trained at Hudds, graduated 2008.
Loved the training, though the dissertation nearly killed me!
I moved to Australia at the end of 2008 and have not looked back. Absolutely love it here and am going for dual citizenship in Dec. Woohoo!!
So look outside the box, be willing to work in rural areas first and you should have no problems finding a job here.

Please send my regards to Chris, Veronica & Irene, and Mike and Andy (if they are all still there).

    Regards,
    Tracy Kemp

    And hey Tracy!
    You lucky lady :(
I can not wait to graduate and emigrate to the land down under!!
Yeah, we've had talk of the dissertation today in Research 2. I'm looking forward to it!
Getting hands on with some work is always better than a lecture in my books.
Any advice on the big move over?
I'm 22 and I have no kids or partner. Wondering if you did it alone or with family?
I'll let the slave drivers know you said hello :)

I had an employer sponsored work visa initially. Then i got premanent residency (easier if you work in rural health than in one of the main cities).
You have be in Aus for 4 years and have PR for at least 2 yars to go for Citizenhip. So in Dec I can apply for dual - easier if you plan travel out of the country regularly.
Looking back I wish I had briught more stuff over, but to be honest a lot of it you can buy. Esp electronic items, to have them adapted for sockets, etc. I just brought laptop and extl hard drive.

Book are very expensive here, so bring books or buy a kindle. Clothes and shoes also pricey.
Grocery shopping is more expensive but housing cheaper.

Fly with Singapore, Emirates, Cathay or Qantas, worth paying more for the more comfortable seats. Just be aware of stop over times and connecting flights once you arrive in Australia. When I was in Mildura I had to fly Qantas else I'd be sitting at Melbourne airport for 10 hours overnight waiting for morning connecting flight.

Getting a visa is easy. The registration is APodA is hard part. Be prepared to wait a few months - took me 16 weeks - for that part. You will need health checks, chest x-rays etc before you are allowed into australia. That will cost you and you have to travel for that. I had to go to manchester to see a Dr who was registered with the Visa authorities.

With shipping, I would shop around and remember it will take at least 12 weeks for goods to arrive by sea. So its worth paying more to get extra luggage flown over with you or flown over to arrive 1-2 weeks after you do. I lived out of 2 suitcases for the first 3 months.

Any more questions I'll do my best to answer. Remember to research your move well especially where you are going to. Not all that is round is a walnut!

    Cheers,
    Tracy
