    Hi,

My supplier is no longer stocking phenol in a bottle but sold me phenol ez. Just used it for the first time - VERY unhappy with the outome.

The applicator is too thick to get into the sulcus!! So that equalled the first mess of phenol being squeezed from applicator over the toe. Did any get into the sulcus ? - who knows.

I tried using a blacks file but it was so hard to get phenol out of the ampoule. Very messy - ampoule is not designed to use a blacks file. I just had to keep dipping and hoping there was some on the file.

At the end of the day I have no idea whether I used enough phenol to stop regrowth. I felt I lost all control of the amount and location of the application of the phenol.

Rang my supplier who said NO-ONE's said that before. If this is true then what am I doing wrong???

I'm going back to a bottle.

    Re: phenol ez

Use it all the time. Love using them.

    Get smaller applicators.

I use a wooden orange stick as has no bud on end, about the same diameter as a cocktail stick but without the sharp point.:D They fit perfectly into the end of the EZ tube holding the phenol..

I've had similar problems with the standard and thin applicators, but now I sterilise some plain orange sticks and have perfect resullts every time.

What HCPCS code are you billing for the phenol swab? If no HCPCS how are you billing for the medication used?
