I hope folks can help me on this query.

For various reasons I don't normally visit nursing homes but a regular patient was admitted to one, and I was asked by family t continue treatment.

On the last visit I found, as part of my pre-treatment assessment, that he now had an irregular pulse. I documented this on my notes. There was no mention of this in his notes and he wasn't having any drugs related to it.

On my way out the manger spoke to me and asked how Mr Smith's feet were. I said that they were fine but he now had an irregular pulse and I was going to report my findings to the GP. They dismissed my concerns by saying that "He is known to have an irregular pulse" and "the pulse at the wrist is different to that at the ankle, because the Doplma used is different ( ??)". I said that he had IMO an irregular pulse, that it fell within my remit, and I was going to flag it up because that was my responsibility, and they could think what they liked about it.

(Later on I wrote to the GP and informed them of my findings.)

My question is, why after all these years do I still find ignorant people who can't/won't understand the remit/Scope of Practice of Chiropodists/Podiatrists ?

Or is that a silly question ?

    Rant over :)

...-it's because Podiatrists insist on being chiropodists!

".-it's because Podiatrists insist on being chiropodists!"

^^^ I really don't understand the relevence in that comment.

However, as you seem to want to discuss "titles" I would say that there is plenty of confusion being caused by FHPs who promote themselves as "Chiropodists/Podiatrists". And before you throw up your hands in mock horror, here's an example of one of your graduates using a link, in her profile, for FHPs that actually describes "podiatrists".

There's a lot you pretend not to understand, Catflap - or perhaps you really don't understand....

The posted link is misguided and irrelevant. She's not one of my 'graduates' in any sense whatever.... just someone else you've 'picked-on'. I do not qualify reflexologists - wrong letters - wrong college!!! The SMAE would like to talk to you! Sod the facts - it's just another opportunity to raise the title debate (yawn), isn't it?

I can only presume that your obsession with 'titles' is really about your own insecurity? I can find you a therapist (registered) if you wish?

I stand corrected, Johnpod, thank you for your most erudite explanation.

So it seems like there are two "Colleges of Foot Health Practitioners" then? ( I wonder who copied who? ) If someone in the industry like me can get confused, then I fear for Jo Public.

And BTW you started this debate about Titles, not me. :D
