    Hello
does anyone know of any good coures and conferences running this year - am sick of going to conferences and courses where we all sit round examinig our navels and then get told to put variations on a cobra pad in the patient's shoe. Would really like to learn new skills - I already have a masters so not really wanting to do modules but if there was one that someone had done that htey(oops one too many gins!) found really useful that would be good

any suggestions - please bear in mind I work in the NHS and although courses in Rio would be nice it may be slightly unrealistic

    cheers Claire

are you being sponsered?? had a colleague who went on this and reported back and it sounded good and I agree with a lot of the points made - not sure I would learn anything new though

I wish I was sponsored or at least on a comission. I have told so many to go on them as they really are worth it. I would be surprised if you don't learn anything new that can't be applied clinically.

Diabetic Limb Salvage (U.S - Washington) or DFCON 2010 next year in March....they are amazing conferences to go to!

Sports Medicine Australia - held at the end of every year (Oct) this year its on the sunny Gold Coast in Australia, next year its in Asia somewhere - ooh nice!!!

Also concur with BOOTCAMP - I have been to several and every time learn something new + its just a damn fine time!

    Hi Moggy,

Seriously, I had so many "but of course!" moments whilst attending the boot camp, I too would be "surprised if you don't learn anything new that can't be applied clinically." (Ask Robert, he`ll testify that my scripts make more sense!)

This is, of course, due to Craigs willingness to openly question his own, and others, past and current ideas. The general consensus was that the excitement of developing new thoughts and applying them in practice is quite contagious!

    Cheers,
    Bel

thanks all maybe I will try the boot camp might be a good refresher - also like the sound of the conference in Asia - don't think the NHS will fund that one though still - if you don't ask... are there any coures in America going on as I have a brother in Cleveland OHIO

Ironic that you mention variations of a cobra pad. Craig would probably advocate those as the importance of medial heel wedging is a large part of the takehome message of the boot camps....:D

Possible conferences of interest this year (in the UK):

Foot pressure measurement; 29 May 2009
    Asics Running 2009; 10 June 2009
Britpods Hands On Clinical Biomechanics; 12-12 June 2009
    Biomechanics Summer School; 31 July 2009 - 01 August 2009
International Sports Science + Sports Medicine Conference; 20-22 August 2009
Society Annual Conference; 19-21 November 2009

Just to reiterate previous points - the Biomechanics Boot Camps are superb. Aint no way you won't learn something. Very strongly recommended

    Hi all,
It maybe a bit late now, but Primary Care 2009 is on at the NEC Birmingham 20/21st May 2009 - this is free!
A splendid comprehensive programme for many AHP disciplines, as usual.

Also Foothealth 2009 run by Professional Events Management is at Kettering Conference Centre on June 23rd & 24th 2009

Keep an eye on 'Podiatry Review' which will shortly be detailing a series of CPD courses. All are designed to be practical, as 'hands on' as possible and many are innovative; prolotherapy for instance. The design is such that you should be able to apply the knowledge immediately in practice. Given that you have a Masters, you'll need to pick and choose as the more 'talk and chalk' would not be appropriate for your level.

    All the best

There is a intensive practical training course on minor skin surgery (covering Skin closure/L/A/Biopsy/ Elliptical excision (cyst), shave, electro surgery), this may be quite interesting for those pods who want to expand to skin surgery.

    www.primarycaretrainingacademy.co.uk

I have spoken to them if they will allow pods, no problem this training is for primary care groups, if you hold L/A cert then go for it. The course is fully approved by West Midlands Deanery & NHS.
