Are you bored and unfulfilled at work? Do you feel underutilised and that you’ve got so much more to offer, if only you were given the chance? Is your career not what you thought it would be?

I’ve spent much of my career feeling like this too.

I started working as a podiatrist 17 years ago. Since then, I’ve worked in both the public and private sectors, in Australia and overseas. I’ve worked in large organisations and small, been paid via salary and fee-sharing, worked in areas related to podiatry (boot fitting in a Canadian ski resort) and spent time completely away from the profession (guiding walks through the Italian Dolomites). I’ve presented at conferences, lectured and supervised students at University. In summary, I have had a real breadth of experience within the profession. Sadly, I’ve spent much of that time feeling unhappy and disengaged at work.

So I did lots of research and eventually enrolled in a business mentoring program. As a result, I now love what I’m doing, I’m really clear on where I’m going and am full of motivation.

I’ve spent as much time on my own personal development as I have on my business. I’ve learnt the importance of integrating my work into my lifestyle so they both benefit each other. I’ve also realised the key factors that make up a healthy workplace and a happy podiatrist.

The main thing I’ve learnt though, is that I really enjoy helping others get the most out of their career. As such, I’m now ready to recruit a podiatrist into my business to undergo a mentoring program that I’ve created. This is not just a job – it’s a structured two-year process that will firstly help you clarify where you want to go, and then help you get there.

We’ll work together every week on your career – not my business or my career, but yours.

We’ll set goals and I’ll be delighted when you reach them. I’ll devote half a day every month and one full day every quarter, to help you reach these goals. Again, not my goals, but yours.

Yours might be to continue working as an employed podiatrist, with a diverse caseload, or to forge ahead in a particular area of expertise. You might like to step up into a managerial role, or you might want to run your own business. And it’s fine if you’re a bit unsure…we can explore a few ideas together and decide which path to take later.

This is an exceptional position, and I am looking for an exceptional candidate, one who is aligned with the positive workplace culture at my clinic. Essential requirements are:
    • A confident and competent practitioner with at least 12 months experience
    • Mature, responsible, conscientious
    • Ability to form great relationships with patients and colleagues
    • Enthusiastic, with a positive outlook on life
    • Desire to learn

This position is full time, although part time hours will be considered for the right candidate.

The clinic is located in Bowral, NSW. Bowral is 90 minutes from Sydney and two hours from Canberra. It’s a very pretty town with a friendly and vibrant community.

Start date is Monday February 2nd (negotiable for the right candidate).

Hopefully you’re excited by this opportunity. If so, please click on this link:

Great advert Josh. I work in the recruitment industry in the podiatry sector and you have described just what it is that clinicians who are at the beginning of their careers are looking for. A wonderful opportunity for someone to gain that mentorship that is so difficult to find in this day and age.

I have commented as I know that a post with comments gets more views for starters and to ask you if you would mind me sharing this post in my job group on Linked In so as to increase it's exposure.

Obviously we have never met, so if you would like to get in touch my number is 03 9223 7554.

Best of luck in recruiting the right person for this fantastic opportunity.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated. Yes, please do use this for your Linked In site. Just copy and paste it, but if you need the original, just let me know and I can email it to you.

It's funny - most clinic owners would say that staffing is their biggest headache, yet I don't think we do enough to recruit and retain great staff. I'm really looking forward to sitting down with the successful candidate to map out his/her next two years so I can tap into my passion for helping, teaching and inspiring others.

I'd love to hear others' thoughts on what makes a podiatry position great instead of average.

    Opinions welcome...
