I just went to download this to take a look. Real shame - it costs $20 a month via a subscription to use it....

Interesting that whilst Sole Supports were acknowledged as funding the study there was no conflict of interest declared in the text (They essentially published a study of their own app, which requires user subscription - worth mentioning, no?).

Also, are we still using ICCs as a gold standard for reliability? Reckon Bland & Altman might have something to say about that.

That is a very serious conflict of interest not declared.

I wanted to comment about that on the article at the website, but they have closed the comments.

Under acknowledgements, they thank the employees of Sole Supports for their help and state the study was funded by Sole Supports. Seems clear to me.

It is usual practice to have a "disclosure of conflict of interest" statement.
But it is obvious from the authors place of employment and the acknowledgements of funding source... Not so obvious is it their app that they using.

I saw Ed Glasser in Savanah GA last weekend. Ed was trying to convince me that this measurement had some relation to plantar fascia tension because it was related to the distance between and first met head. He did not seem to understand that the hallux would dorsiflex in the heel off position and that would also alter the tension in the fascia.

Its a common misunderstanding. There was that paper a year or so ago by Sinclair (I think) that did 3d kinematics on distance between heel and 1st MPJ marker and called that 'windlass tension'
