The date of July 4, 1776 marks the beginning of the United States of America. 231 years ago, the Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men who had a vision of a great country. However, these same 56 men were putting their lives at risk by penning their name to the document that declared their desire for independence and for the creation of a new nation.

I, for one, am proud to be a Yankee podiatrist and greatly cherish the international friendships that I have made over the past two decades with like-minded podiatrists and researchers. I look forward to many more years of sharing knowledge with podiatrists and researchers from the many countries represented on this forum regarding the biomechanical function of the foot and lower extremity.

So for now, Happy 231st Birthday, United States!!

Footnote: Please note that in John Trumbull's 1817 painting depicted below, "Declaration of Independence", that John Adams is standing on Thomas Jefferson's foot.

Also another remarkable fact regarding these famous men is that both John Adams, the second president of the United States, and Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, died within hours of each other, on July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years after their signing of the Declaration of Independence!!

    Many happpy returns.

The Third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson was of Scots descent, and the leader of the political agitation which caused the American Revolution, Patrick Henry was a Member of Continental Congress and is considered the greatest speaker/orator of his generation. He was the son of a Scotsman.

Our founding fathers were geniuses- having drafted the oldest working constitution today in the world. Hopefully the EU will take a peak at this document as they attempt to ratify their constitution yet again.

If Baby Bush had one percent of T.J.'s intelligence we all would be in much better shape....

One more great Scot toeslayer: Angus Young !!!!

    Happy 4th

  4. Yes, but Thomas Jefferson bore children through his young slave, Sally Hemings, which would been quite the tabloid news item in today's world. In addition, he made the Louisiana purchase with no constitutional authority to do so. So, even the great Thomas Jefferson had faults. Still, Tom Jefferson was probably one of the smartest, most creative, and most inventive Presidents of the US.

    Get off my foot, John!!

I looks like they are playing footsies under the table. Perhaps Sally Hemings isn't the only skeleton in his closet ! :p

... and of course there is Bon Scott. (came from my hometown, Kirriemuir).

From Kevin's jpeg, it looks like TJ enjoyed the freedom of Angus's short trousers.

    Thunderstruck.
