Inspired by an advert doing the rounds in the UK at the moment which claims Colgate toothpaste is used by the majority of dentists, I was wondering if there is a majority "brand" of foot orthoses that are worn by podiatrists?

Personally I wear a single AOL (now Vasyli)... and you?

    I'll wear any old orthosis

If its got an arch, it'll stop my PF tension

Favourite pair - was a pair of Danenbergs but is now a pair of full length low density EVA cutom insoles. I should add that they are not custom to me but a patient who did not come for a fitting appointment. Waste not want not, I say. Nothing like my feet at first but pretty comfortable now!

  3. make mine for myself - the wife a P&O casts me - usually to see how some of my ideas and techniques are.

About to - Portuguese it up with lateral skive next

At my clinic, a VHD with plugs removed on my left (for "FnHL") and a full length dual density ICB on my right (for my increasingly painful osteophyte). Can`t get any orthoses in my `non-work` shoes, not sensible.

Reminded me of a NTNON clip "8 out 10 cats preferred their owners.." tried looking for it but could only find this

  5. I just prefer Leslie Judd.
P.S. there are numerous pussy jokes in there, but I let them all go.

My prefab of choice in my number 1's is the Rxpress City.

In my sports shoes I dabble between my custom made devices, a new sports prefab from Firefly (no idea whats its called) or RX Airwalk depending on how I'm feeling.

  7. When I bother, I wear a pair of slimflex simples.
Which I heated in the oven then stood on on top of a casting pillow

    One of these;

    http://www.dltchiropody.co.uk/details3.asp/ProductID/713/icb-medical-dual-density-full.htm

Of course, these have a 5 degree intrinsic rearfoot varus angle, not your 4 or 6 degree bog standard... Ask Isaacs about the brainchild behind these. He loves it.

Anyhoo, I find that the firm(er) density bit works well, with a nifty mortons extension, for the dorsal spur on my right 1st MPJ.

    Hope that helps! ;)

I don't leave home without my custom devices which, in their first incarnation, were made by a 4th year podiatry student when I was a 3rd year student.

1st interation hurt in the arch until a plantar fascial groove was added. Next interation was my own experimentation in which I filled the medial arch to the point where you couldn't see bump on the cast for the plantar fascial groove. Equally as comfortable with fewer blisters. Then added a medial heel skive. Noticible improvement and when I first stood on them I could feel my posterior tibial tendon relax. Some 10 to 15 years later I added a top cover with a reverse Morton's extension. I'm a believer that the reverse Morton's adds benefit.

I tried a prefab made by a local lab that had a bit of a varus heel cup and a bit of a valgus intrinsic post. The intrinsic valgus post was too high and got lateral foot pain and ground the underside of the device to remove the intrinsic post and added a rearfoot post. I used those for a couple of years in one particular pair of shoes so I wouldn't have to move devices between shoes.

    I know, TMI

I wear my trusty 25 years old+ cad-cam polyprop devices for walking the dogs (I do a lot of that). They have a RF post of 4 degrees, because I'm a traditionalist;), and a rather swish intrinsic varus FF post. As a one-piece device they don't get dirty, but if they did they can be washed.

I am still in my custom devices, had them for 10 years, no adjustments, still play hockey in them, feel naked (well not quite) without them but if my orthotics can go in a shoe never go without them.

It would appear that 6 out of 10 cats prefer modified prefabs on this thread so far. That probably accurately reflects my clinical practice which is interesting........ok maybe not to anyone else

Sometimes you are given an act of contrition , but I suppose podiatry is enough .When you think of it it is quite biblical i mean Jesus did wash the Disciples feet , but i digress .

Actually, I lied  not intentionally Robert, before you suggest anything....Forgot that I wear some very comfy custom made `carpet` orthoses with a `hyperflange`, not quite `super`(which the aforementioned made), in my Converses and a 2mm heel raise added. Love `em
