ankle arthrodesis and back pain

Its commonly believed that given time ankle equinus can lead to back pain, i have searched the literature on line, and i cant find much on the subject in the way of research papers.

I am also interested in finding out if there is any research that indicates an association between ankle arthrodesis, and back pain. I have seen some research that indicates there are problems in the joints just distal to the ankle for obvious reasons, but that the knee, and hip are largely unaffected, i suspect most of the time they are not considering the lumbar spine.

Does anyone know of any research that sheds some light on the subject.
