    Hi

I've been meaning to post this info for a while as I've noticed one or two posters asking for amputation related advice and support, and I thought some of the links below also may be useful to a few of your patients ... and may possibly help some of you clinically?

    USA

Amputee Coalition of America - http://www.amputee-coalition.org/
Provides a wealth of information and fact sheets. It also has an online forum offering peer-to-peer support. ACA have a good peer-to-peer support network offline too.

    Australia

    Limbs 4 Life - http://www.limbs4life.com/index.php
Also provides good info and has an online forum. Has an excellent offline peer-to-peer support network.

    UK

Heather Mills (love her or hate her, she has a good peer-to-peer support online forum) - http://www.heathermills.eu/forum/

The UK Limb Loss Information Centre - http://limblossinformationcentre.com/
'Does what it says on the tin.'

    Murray Foundation - http://www.murray-foundation.org.uk/
For those of you in Scotland, this organisation provides trained peer-to-peer support workers who often go on to be counsellors.

    Midlands Amputees
    - http://www.midlandsamputees.org.uk/
Provides offline peer-to-peer support to people within the UK midlands counties (stated on the website).

    The Limbless Association - http://www.limbless-association.org/
    May also be of help.

Some of the prosthetic supply and manufacture companies are also a good source of info (e.g. Ossur, Otto Bock and Ohio Willow Wood).

I realise that all us pods try our best not to lose a patients' foot or leg to amputation. But, sometimes, even with the best of treatment, a foot or leg needs to be amputated. And then, unfortunately, life can suddenly become very difficult (physically! and emotionally) and lonely.

Btw, I am an amputee and I know these sites are a good resource, so I take full responsibility for posting this info. :D
