Anatomy is a funny subject - I have taught it for so many years I woulod care to forget. You have to find a balance between three issues:
    1) learning
    2) understanding
    3) Mechanisms of representation

The problem is that many od the representations remove, or quietly forget biological variation - we are not all the same.

However, as a starting point, I would point everyone towards is the Netter images. Frank Netter was a New York Teenager who wanted to be an artist. His parents said " you are going to be a Doctor!". He eventually did MD, and settled on medical artistry. His works are beautiful. With one of his books, there was a CD ROM released which is beyond belief from and educational teaching point of view. And do you know the worst bit? They didn't copyright protect it! How stupid, if you get my drift. I would recommend anyone to get a copy of his CD ROM. Cheers Rob

  4. Always loved Netter's illustrations. They are so distinctive you can spot them a mile away. Does anyone have a copy of this CD rom that they wouldn't mind burning for me?

They are a bit pricey, but there are some tidy Netter iPad/iPhone apps out there

These are really wonderful. Thanks so much for posting them.

Mike, I need to ask you a question.
I know that these are put up for us to download and learn from as members here but I was wondering...I would like to share them with a former instructor where I went to school so that they might be shared with the current and future students in the prosthetics and orthotics program. They are always looking for better information so that we can have a better understanding of things. These would be a welcome addition. Is there copywrite protection for things here that we view? Or is it ok to share?

    Thanks
    Todd

  7. Hi Todd,

No Copywrite issues as these are posted on the internet and found Via search engines anyone can read and download from Podiatry Arena - PDF files are a different ball game, but all of these papers go for it.

ps As I think you have come to realize the whole of the arena is a great resource so getting studies to know about this place is also a great idea.

When I was teaching one of the 1st things I did was write the address of Podiatry Arena down for the students.

    Thankyou Mike.
I am most definetly going to get the students to read this site. A very worthwhile endeavour to be sure.

When Tony Duffin was a PhD student of mine, we published a series of papers from his thesis - one was on ultrasonography and the plantar fascia, and its thickening in non-enzymatic glycation with high blood sugars. I think it was in Diabetic Medicine - worth a visit - look on pubmed, or similar, under A C Duffin. Rob
