I have just bought my first autoclave second hand from ebay. It is a Prestige Century 2 (1998) Model (horizontal tray style), it is in very good condition and has only done 350 cycles in it's life.

I was feeling very happy with my purchase until the engineer came today to do a service and the first words he said were "these are the worst autoclaves, totally unreliable, these are the only ones I tend to scrap".

After his initial comments he then said it's only had very low usage and it looks good for its age etc.. I will only be using it 1-2 cycles a week but it has left me worried about reliability in the long run.

Has anyone had any experiences with this model?

    Dear Katie 123

I have been using a Century 2 for years. If you are only using it two or three times a week and having it checked yearly, yours should give you trouble free usage for ages.
Make sure you follow the gidelines in the instruction book for maintenance and never use tap water.
    Regards

    Hey,
I used mine for years in private practice. I had it serviced regularly and had no problems with reliability of the steriliser or the maintenence people. I would agree about the tap water though!
