I was reading the below today and was wondering how many people will or wont be getting the vaccine ´when the big roll out begins.

They are talking about 70% of population in Sweden will take it. I will be one of the 30%.

Even if i get offered it i wont take it. im not being a guinea pig.

however it will be interesting to see how many people actually go for it.

I'll take it!

I have two young kids in nursery. I work in a clinic. Chances are good that we, as a family, will get it.

If I have the jab and get ill, it will be at a time different to the kids getting it, so I won't have to look after them.

And either way It means I WON'T be ill when they are... so I can look after THEM.

Swine flu does'nt scare me... unless we are all ill at the same time. Having to look after a sick 1 year old, 3 year old, and 31 year year old, WHILST ill with SF? Stuff of nightmares!!!

I LIKE vaccines! I'll take any they'll give me!!

If the vaccine IS experimental and we ARE guinea pigs it means the government thinks there are better chances vaccinating a whole hospital full of staff at the same time, and most of them being OK than them all getting SF. I'll take those odds.

Not enough testing done.
Would like to know what the ingredients are.
Wonder how the vaccine will affect future super swine bugs.

I am one to ask questions before letting anything be injected into me.

Mine is more a small welsh chapel on a barren hill with a corrugated iron roof which leaks. So I'm far less fussy.

I am interested in the ingredients and testing idea though. There seems to be an idea that the Sf jab has had less testing than, for example, the seasonal flu jab. Is there a basis for this belief? What are the ingrediants which would cause concern (besides deactivated viral matter)?

This seems to be a common belief, where does it come from?

Hi guys if you read the article that I linked they discuss all the myths around the vaccine.

The reason I´m not taking it is that WHO seem to be following the same path as with the bird flu.

Let the world know that there a new flu which will kill of a huge amount of people. Papers run with it as Death sells papers. Then Phamo companies make a vaccine sell it the world make Billions but more people are killed by the normal flu. Peolpe move on with there lives and then maybe next time it will be cat or dog flu.

The boy who cried wolf sorry comes to mind. But the Governments have spent the money so they need to be see to be protecting the people and would loose the next election if they had billions of dollars sitting in a vaccine in a warehouse.

Thats ridiculous. The swine flu vaccine has more clinical trials to supports its use than any orthotic device you prescribe.

I await the day you tell me you have stopped prescribing orthoses.

Don't like the vaccine, don;t get it - its your prerogative - but don't try and push your semi conspiracy theorist beliefs with no basis onto others. Let them make their own decisions.

Paul 1st where did I say don´t get It. I gave my reasons for not talking it. If you read the link that I posted at the start of the thread it gives the reasons why you should take it. Quite balanced

So best you keep your view to yourself..... no this is a forum you can say what you view is...... so can I.

Have you read the Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein. If not I recommend that you read it very intersting not that I agree with all of what see written espeically about the ideal Swedish system.

Anyway look at page 290 and read up on Tamiflu. The firm Gilead patented the tamiflu product. Guess who was Chairman D. Rumsfeld. made a rich man richer while he was defense minister.

It has happened before.......................

No maybe my post came across a little harshly, apologies - I was merely saying the trials needed for this drug to be released to the public would have been amazingly extensive. To intimate it isn't safe then you are potentially biasing others decisions regarding their treatment - which may inadvertently cause loss of life......

I am not advising people to take or not to take - I am not imposing my view (either correct or incorrect) on anyone full stop.

I read a huge amount outside of Podiatry. What you are suggesting I read is "conspiracy theory" not fact. I f I wanted that I would watch my X-Files DVD's.

Trial comparing simultaneous and sequential administration of seasonal flu vaccine and sanofi pasteur candidate 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine in healthy adults (18 to 64 years old) and elderly adults (65 years and older) volunteers. Each of the four groups in this trial will enroll up to 200 volunteers, for a target number of 800 volunteers who will receive the candidate H1N1 vaccine. An additional 50 volunteers will receive an inactive (placebo) vaccine and the seasonal flu vaccine. For more information, see NCT00943878.

5. Trial comparing simultaneous and sequential administration of seasonal flu vaccine and sanofi pasteur candidate 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine in primed children (children who have received two doses of seasonal vaccine in one year or are older than 9 years). Each of the four groups in this trial will enroll up to 150 children, for a target number of 600 volunteers who will receive the candidate H1N1 vaccine. For more information, see NCT00943202.

It is a very intersting read and very well referenced. Have a look at it next time your in a book shop.

As for giving my Option. I would hope that people are well enough educated to make up there own mind from their own reading which they now have more of from your last post.

But Mark,

Roberts opinions were formed from fact - you are asking people to believe conspiracy.

Roberts post won't cost lives. Yours may if people read it the wrong way. Also keep in mind others read this forum, not just Medical Professionals.

Maybe start a new thread "Flu Vac Conspiracies" it may be more appropriately titled and allow you to discuss the theories without fear of getting people confused.

I think its worth keeping this in perspective.

In a bad year in the UK seasonal flu can kill upward of 20,000 people.

Swine flu deaths so far, 40 weeks after the outbreak started, 84.

Now I know we're expecting a second wave, and it may be worse than the first. And if there is an available vaccine the NEXT 84 tragic deaths may be avoidable. But lets not get melodramatic on this. You are still over 20 times more likely to be killed on the roads and well over 100 times more likely to have a heart attack (probably all that worrying about swine flu )

And some more numbers, the 1976 US flu jab which was "rushed to market" caused 4000 cased of Guilan Barre syndrome, a truly horrible and often fatal disease.

Which sounds like a disaster and a scandle, until you see that this was a GBS rate of 0.01%. Generally the death rate for seasonal flu is about 0.1%. Death rate for swine flu estimates range between 0.045% and 0.0007.

So you play the odds any way you cut it.

I am fit and well and trust my own immune system so see no reason to have an unproven vaccine.

 

My issue is with the mutli dose vials, not until it is available as single doses will I be vacinated.

 

That is probably one of the only legitimate concerns at present and I completely understand people not wanting it until single dose is available....

I imagine the multi vials were used as a means of expediting it to the market.

It was grim. It was so horrifically corny It actually caused me physical pain.

I have no option now but to email and text it to everyone I know!

 

Apparently it now comes in single dose shots and they have dispensed with the multi use vials? Anyone else experienced this?

 

They also have no mercury in the single dose vials which I guess is a good thing as well. While the muti-dose does in the version that they are using in Sweden .

Meh, I'm just not a fan of vaccines, so won't be having it.
There's no basis for that, other than having a hippie father who stopped me having vaccines when I was a kid on the basis that it was putting poison in your body. God bless his eccentric little cottons.
Would I let a kid of mine have it? I would if they had any underlying health problems, but otherwise not.


Thing is, I've had good old English flu and survived (proper flu, not just a bad cold!) so I reckon I'd survive swine flu too.
