I am planning to start a small domiciliary practice and would welcome advice on autoclaves. Specifically, I noticed an ad in "Podiatry Now" for a DLT "Podiaclave" costing £995 + VAT, including printer. It is round, looks a bit like a rice-boiler, loads from the top, capacity 9 litres.

This is considerably cheaper than other autoclaves on the market, so I'm wondering if there's a catch? Have other members had experience with this particular autoclave? I intend phoning the manufacturers tomorrow, but of course they will say its great, so I'm hoping for unbiased advice from here.

Mainly I want to know (a) is it reliable, and (b) how many sets of instruments can it do at a time?

I would not recommend ‘top loading’ autoclaves as there is a front loading alternative at the same price.

I suggest you consider the Enigma 8L N autoclave which is £999.99 with a free printer. It is a non-vacuum front loading autoclave with 2 trays and a digital display. This, in my opinion, is a far better autoclave than the Podiaclave.
