Hi everyone, in graduated in 2008, I worked for Shuropody for a while but wasnt inspired and then I was offered a vacancy in a clinic, but now I have branched out on my own. I havent really got involved in biomechanics, always shying away - I need to boost my confidence. I now find myself in an environment whereby I will be approached by people for biomechanics. Please can anyone suggest an excellent biomechanics course in West or North Yorkshire. Also can anyone recommend a good place for prescription orthotics?:bash:

As Admin has posted, Biomechanics Bootcamp is a must for anyone from beginners right through to experienced practitioners. Not in Yorkshire but if you want something good you may have to go further afield and the trip to London for this is well worth it. It is also very reasonable in terms of cost for what you get.

No shortage of good labs for custom orthotics

    Salts Techstep

    Langer UK

    Firefly

These are just a small selection of companies available whose services I use and am very happy with.

    Hope this helps

    Robin

    Hi Tania,

Just to echo the above comments, the Boot Camp would be a superb introduction to biomechanics for you given the position you describe yourself in. Well worth the train ticket/petrol and hotel stay. You may be waiting some time for an 'excellent biomechanics course' to come to you.

    Hi,
Shaun Kelly is great at teaching biomechanics. He does distance learning where you can get C.P.D. points. I know he runs training courses etc. as well. I think he lives in Burnley. You can find him via the Podiatry Now Magazine. I am sure he runs courses in Huddersfield.

    Tania,

I agree with Mike, I'd pick the Bootcamp over Shaun Kelly's courses every time.

thanks for the bootcamp info. Its 305 dollars. Would everyone say its worth every penny? and from anyone's experience, am I able to keep going back to the video for revision?
Ive also been in touch with Langers orthotics as suggested in one of the above postings, and I cant believe -their advanced course clashes with the Society's conference at Harrogate in november. Just my luck.

All I will say is that the quality of the Society conference varies year on year, whereas I imagine the Langer course runs annually and seldom changes. Also the Society conference will not be back in Yorkshire for a few years, whereas I'd guess you can go to the Langer course in Leeds year on year.

That in mind, given the Society conference is in Harrogate this year, and also has a better than usual musculoskeletal vibe to it I would say it may be a better bet if you are trying to decide between the two. Personally I'm looking forward to hear Chris Nester speak in particular.
